Origins

Introduced in Epic Week 2015 as the very first Boss Monster ever, it accidentally became a long-term recurring character. Because it was pictured as being led onto the battle-field in chains, the userbase did not think that it was actually a willing participant in the combat, and petitioned to have the dragon healed and freed from its goblin captors after the event.

The Many Headed Cyborg Dragon took 47 hours for the site to defeat from the moment of its first appearance.

The goblins abandoned their erstwhile champion as soon as it fell, leaving it to bleed. Not to fear, though! Immediately, a group of concerned members set to work loading the downed beastie onto the world's largest stretcher, and whisked it away to a properly equipped dragon ranch where it could be provided with proper medical care, kept away from children and pets until it calms down, and generally be rehabilitated into a nicer, happier dragon.

A series of news posts in the following months tracked its progress being rehabilitated at the dragon ranch.

I've just received a missive from the dragon ranch where our friend the Many Headed Cyborg Dragon was taken for care! I'm told our nemesis-turned-ward has been receiving the finest of care. Its progress was originally slow, as one of the heads kept chewing off its bandages and any casts its caretakers tried to apply. Now that a dragon-sized "cone of shame" has been manufactured, it is recovering quite quickly!

The Many Headed Cyborg Dragon. It has a few bandages, but is clearly on the mend. A tiny person on a ladder is climbing onto its haunches to change a bandage. One of the four heads is wearing the cone of shame. One of the heads has a massive squeaky toy, and hte other two heads look extremely interested in the toy as well.

Although the Many Headed Cyborg Dragon is slow to trust and is not yet ready to share much about itself, we have learned a few things:

We think the Many Headed Cyborg Dragon is about 120 years old. That's quite young in dragon years! The cyborg implants look much more recent, probably installed some time in the last decade. We have no idea who is responsible for those particular "upgrades," as they are far beyond any of the tech the goblin horde had!

Two of the heads identify as female, one as male, and one does not feel that it fits into the traditional gender binary.

No one had ever asked it if it wanted to be a Boss Battle before, and it had never considered that there might be other options for it; that was simply the way life was. But, after our members expressed their wish to see the Many Headed Cyborg Dragon have a better life, even as they were forced to battle it, the Many Headed Cyborg Dragon's eyes have been opened to other possibilities.

One of the heads thinks it would like to be a boss of a company. Another would like to be a "boss" in the slang sense, and wear a lot of jaunty hats and toss off hilarious one-liners. A third head would like to go back to being a boss battle when it has adequately healed. The fourth would like to be left alone to chew on squeaky toys and perhaps eat an occasional herd of cattle. Clearly, our new friend has a lot of things discuss with itself about its future.

We'll continue to monitor the Many Headed Cyborg Dragon's progress, and let you know when there is more news!

I've received another bulletin from the dragon ranch where our friend The Many Headed Cyborg Dragon was taken for treatment! It sounds like our new friend is nearly fully recovered from the wounds it sustained in goblin captivity, and during our extended war with it. As the casts and bandages have come off, its caretakers have been able to remove the cone of shame from the right-most head without any further chewing.

Given all this great progress, they have been experimenting with allowing the Many Headed Cyborg Dragon to socialize with some of the other recovering dragons on the ranch. So far this has had... mixed results.

The Many Headed Cyborg Dragon is completely healed except for two band-aids. It is crouching over a giant slab of meat and two of its heads are growling at a single-headed red dragon that is trying to get a bite of the meat. One of the heads seems perplexed or annoyed. The fourth head looks scared by the conflict.

At least two of the heads have severe food aggression issues, and don't like to share toys. One of the heads is very sad about this, as it is eager to make new friends, and the fourth head is completely uninterested in other dragons as either friend or foe and would like to be allowed to go back inside and keep to itself.

Don't worry -- all of these introductions have been conducted in carefully monitored and controlled conditions. If any dragonly disagreements begin to escalate out of hand, trained mages are standing by to freeze the situation.

Here's hoping our confused friend manages to reach a compromise with itself soon!

Returning as a Hero

The next time the Many Headed Cyborg Dragon was seen, it was during the climax of Epic Week 2016, when it returned to help defend its rescuers from the massive Queen Blight Spider, resulting in the RPR's first Kaiju battle.

Alien Origins

comic4-specialtransmission-small.pngIn the Epic Week 2017 plot, aliens known as The Xenobeasts tried to invade the world of the RPR. Advance scouts that infiltrated their mothership (known as the "Die Star") found files which indicated that the Many Headed Cyborg Dragon's implants were actually technology from the Xenobeasts, leading to speculation that the Xenobeasts had been to the RPR before and performed experiments on the MHCD.

Because of the alien origins of the MHCD's alien implants, the MHCD agreed to board the RPR's makeshift space ship and join the assault on the Die Star.

In an act of incredible trust and heroism, our brave friend the Many Headed Cyborg Dragon plugged herself/herself/himself/itself into the main frame of the die hard and worked to hack its systems while we defended her/her/him/it.

These efforts were successful, and the MHCD was able to gain access to the Die Star's systems and trigger the self-destruct countdown. She/She/He/It fled back to the RPR's space ship and returned to the world with the rest of the defenders.

A Vacation

Given that the Many Headed Cyborg Dragon had appeared three Epic Weeks in a row, twice as a helper, many players wondered where the Many Headed Cyborg Dragon was during Epic Week 2018. In late May of that year, a letter was received from the Many Headed Cyborg Dragon, explaining that she/she/he/it had needed time to process what had happened and to find themselves, and so were on an extended vacation. She/she/he/it also explained that it did not feel comfortable traveling on wooden sailing ships on account of its breath weapons, and 2018 had taken place primarily on wooden ships. This represented one of the few times she/she/he/it has spoken directly from all of its heads.

Time Traveling

In Epic Week 2020, the Many Headed Cyborg Dragon came with us on our time travel adventure. This became... complicated when we traveled forward in time from the past, and found ourselves in the middle of 2017's Xenobeast invasion of the RPR, specifically on the floating alien fortress the Die Star. There, we ran into our past selves, and did our best to aid them in their defense of 2017's Many Headed Cyborg Dragon's attempts to hack into the Die Star. However, at this point we had the 2017 MHCD there, AND the MHCD from the future defending its past self.

Eventually, the RPR community traveled back to the present, but discovered we had accidentally left some of our people behind, and brought 2017's version of the Many Headed Cyborg Dragon along with us in addition to our present version of the MHCD. This meant that the MHCD never successfully hacked the Die Star in 2017, which meant that the Xenobeasts had won the war and taken over the RPR. During this stage, we fought in a dystopian present that was patrolled by both Xenobeasts and their now cyborged dinosaur minions. Our task was to recharge the time machine's batteries and send 2017's Many Headed Cyborg Dragon back to the exact moment in time that we had taken it from, in order to fix the timeline.

In the erstwhile, both the past and present versions of the MHCD assistred in our final boss battle of Epic Week 2020.

Pronouns

The different heads use different pronouns, identifying as she/she/he/it.

Some further clarification about those pronouns was provided in an April 2020 news post:
Quote:
A trivia aside about the MHCD and its her/her/him/it pronouns: Normally, it's extremely rude to refer to a person as an "it." Never ever refer to a human as "it" unless they specifically ask you to! So why do we do it with one of the Many Headed Cyborg Dragon's heads?

When healing and resting on the dragon ranch after 2015's battle, the MHCD had some time to become acquainted with the concept of being able to express its own identities. The fourth head decided it felt no connection to the gender binary, but decided to choose "it" as its pronoun instead of "them" because it DID strongly identify as non-human and enjoyed being "monstrous" in its own way. It felt that using the pronoun "it" would make it sound more ominous, evoke its connection to legendary fearsome creatures, and remind us that even though it was its own person and now even our friend, it should not be mistakenly thought of as human.
