The Duchess, also known as Le Grande-Duchesse de L'hiver, is the hostess of the Winter Masquerade.
The Duchess is a character who maintains anonymity all the year long.
She has been described as "the Grand Duchess de L'hiver", and signs her letters "La grande-duchesse de L'hiver" (L'hiver is French for Winter, but considering that the Duchess also sends invitations frequently, perhaps there's meant to be a pun somewhere in there, too).
The Duchess is a gracious hostess who seems to be actually magical or miraculous, as well as lively, attentive, and shrewd. She is elegant and stylish. She has radiant brown skin, multi-toned golden eyes behind a wintry masquerade mask, and deep, almost-black auburn curls pulled back in a soft regal style. She is garbed in a sparkling dress, with a white snowflake pattern on ice-pale blue and deep winter blue. Even the ruffled blue bodice trimmings sparkle. The Duchess seems to wear shimmering blue lip gloss, and has been spotted wearing at least one pearl earring in a pointed ear. She also wears white gloves. The masquerade mask she holds matches her dress, different hues of blue with a snowflake print and some mysterious curliques; and the mask and the Duchess' hair each have a large blue snowflake ornamentation. The snowflake on the mask is on her right side, and the snowflake in her hair is on her left.
The Duchess usually hosts masquerade galas in an enchanted glade, at the cliff overlooking the Icy Bluffs. There is usually a manor nearby, which may be her residence.
