This mechanic was introduced in 2024. Some monsters can inflict the frozen status when they hit you. This status effect typically lasts for 4-6 hours, or until cured using a general healing item such as a medicinal plant or stim-spray, or the specific curative item anti-freeze. If a monster inflicts freeze on you while you are already frozen, the debuffs will remain the same, but the countdown on the status resolving naturally will be restarted.

Being frozen makes you feel weak. You are not able to hit as hard until the effects wear off. In practice, this means that you do -2 damage every time you land a successful attack, for a minimum of 0 damage. However, this penalty can be negated by attacking with a weapon that does fire damage, namely a flamethrower or ember daggers.

If a walrus defended you during the round that the freeze would have been inflicted, the walrus will prevent you from becoming frozen.

Cures

A frond from a plant with green, somewhat shiny leaves. Medicinal Plant - Recovery from all status effects (except bleeding.) Has been available during many different years.
A futuristic metal object that is somewhat syringe-like, though it has no needle. It contains a green liquid. Stimspray - Recovery from all status effects (except bleeding.)
A dose of anti-freeze potion, suitable for removing the frozen status effect. Anti-Freeze - Recovery from the frozen status effect only. Available in 2024 and 2026 via crafting.
A steaming cup of tea. Two lumps of sugar are waiting on the saucer, for those who like it sweet. Hot Cuppa - Recovery from all status effects (except bleeding.) This item was only available during the Operation Audacious Phoenix Bake Sale Fundraiser, and therefore is an extremely rare collectors item. Most would not consider using it to clear their status effects because of this, but it is included here for the sake of completion.
