This Looking For RP topic is marked as closed, meaning it is no longer seeking new players.

This is my first RP on this site and I've been thinking about it for a good month now.

Basic Setting -
Despite its name, Vulcan is a planet of ice. 99% of the planet is covered in frozen oceans. Large, mega-volcanoes dot the surface, providing great vents that warm up their immediate surroundings. These volcanoes are the only areas where life can survive un-aided on Vulcan. Most, if not all, of these volcanoes are also home to giant, sprawling cities.

Jotum - The city rests on the east side of the volcanoe, Jotum. It is made up of 18 overlapping layers. The bottom 5 levels make up the slums. Areas so dilapidated that it's a wonder how they continue to hold up the city.

Opening -
You are a member of a scavenging team whose job is to collect the valuable ores that come from your home volcanoe of Jotum. While mining an exceptionally large fragment, you and your team are witness to something huge coming up through the ice. This thing surges past you and destroys the lower levels of Jotum. As you watch an army marches out from the now-shattered ice. The rest of Jotum is laid to waste.

The story itself will begin in the slums before you all are set out for your last official job. I'd like for at least 4 people to be active in this RP. Their are four basic roles that I'd like filled:
1) Leader - does what leaders do...
2) Navigator - pretty self-explanatory...
3) Security - resident weapons expert
4) Mechanic - the one who keeps shit running

Please, give your characters other strengths and some weaknesses. If you want to incorporate your character into the world, just let me know and I'll help you get it figured out. As of right now I'm leaning towards the whole detached DM feel for this RP. Lastly, depending on how it plays out this RP might lead into future or be related to future RPs of mine.

If enough of you want to join then I'll post more detailed information of the world and setting.
Magic 30%
Some magic. Few can use it, but most of the players probably won't have it. Magical characters will likely believe that they are all alone.
Technology 90%
Far future, perhaps interstellar travel (faster than light)
Combat 70%
More combat than not. The setting may be at war, and the characters will likely get involved whether or not they seek it out.

Details: Freeform, adjustable length posts, long-term RP partner preferred.

You have my interest so far. What races live on this planet?
TheHornedMikhail Topic Starter

Races –
Human – The most prevalent race on Vulcan due to a massive colonization campaign several centuries ago. Leaders in technological advancement, Humans encompass almost every level of the social hierarchy on the planet. They tend to be paler than their Earthen counterparts and slightly more comfortable in the cold. Silver hair and eyes have become more prevalent on this planet, though they are still quite uncommon.

Sor’quan – The original inhabitants of Vulcan’s landmasses, the Sor’quan are a nomadic, tribe-like people that cling to their old ways. Tall and lithe, they are overwhelmingly deadly with their spears. A Sor’quan child is given their spear as soon as they’re born and with methods not quite understood, the spear grows with the child. It often reflects their personalities, their likes and dislikes, and their innermost desires. In fact, there are Sor’quan trained in the art of Spear-reading.

I'm open to other races, just run them by me first.

Here's a snippit of my writing and an idea of the world.

Post 1 – A Morning in the Slums

It was a Sunday. The winds from the ice plains came ripping through the sodden streets of Jotum. Piles of trash and rotten things shifted across the streets, as if they were alive, keeping to the shadows. Small bodies of emaciated children, nearly frozen, dodged here and there. They did whatever they could to stay out of the light. One of them was caught. His screams echoing off of the soot-covered buildings around him. The man that had him was large, big enough to make most men shrink away. He had the squirming brat by the wrist. In the brat’s hand was a small rodent. The creature had been freshly killed, and by the look of the man’s apparel, was about to be butchered for meat. The child had obviously stolen it and would most likely lose several fingers, if not his hand or ear.

That was the way the slums were. They dispensed their own special brand of justice. It was harsh, cruel, and effective. They were many in the upper levels that argued amongst themselves about the “barbarism” in the slums. However, for all their talk none of them have ever done anything to change the slums. No one in the slums wanted them to come down anyways.

A woman called out to from a distance. She was dressed in nothing but a grime-filled gossamer cloth. It clung to her figure, accentuating her curves and revealing the small amount of pudge that rested on her stomach. There was a smile on her face, the kind that begged you to go to her, but there was a tiredness behind it. As if she knew where her life was headed and she couldn’t find a way out of it. A small child ran out from a corner. He appeared to be slightly better fed then the other children in the slums. He began to cling to the woman just as a man had started moving towards her. The man, after seeing the child, scowled and continued down the streets. The woman’s face fell, knowing that she probably won’t be able to feed her son tonight. Yet, she turned to the child, smiled, and led him away. He was her son, even if he unintentionally made their lives harder. As she turned away, a large scar appeared on the back of her neck and right shoulder.

Another corner passed, another street crossed. Almost materializing out of nothing, a large building appeared. The words “Xephalim Mining Co.” were blazoned across the building’s side. The sounds of heavy machinery and metal on metal reverberated throughout the street. Men and woman, armed with grease-covered overalls and a copious amount of tools, ran rampant around the building. As you passed through a number of them recognized you. Most of them let you pass by them, but there were a few who intentionally got in your way.

A deep, gruff voice called out your name. A man that easily stood at ten feet in height was waving you down. His giant form almost crushing one of the workers. You know him well. Kal’s face is slightly more gaunt then usual, a sign of the hard times that have befallen everyone in the slums. Thick, krinkly brown hair sprouted from his head and face. He wore a pair of large boots and dark blue jeans. A long, grimy leather coat was held in his left hand and draped over his shoulder. On his torso was a tight-fitting black shirt. Its long sleeves had been pushed up to his elbows, revealing the copious amounts of hair on his arms. Deep brown eyes, surrounded by laugh lines looked down at you. They were always filled with compassion.

“We got her back up and running!” The giant shouted across the horde of workers that blocked his way. His large, muscular arm came up, pointing at something behind you. “The 7X-19, Specter, is officially open for business.”

You knew that name. You turned around, a small amount of nostalgia clinging to your heart. There she was, the ship you served on when you were first hired. Well, everyone called them “ships,” but the mining vehicles were all land transports. Afterall, the oceans were frozen and covered in ice plains. Her long, skinny form filled the entire length of the building. Gleaming sheets of white metal adorned her body. A large loading dock opened at the very rear of the ship, while smaller, more personal loading bays were located near the front. Along the middle, you could see a number of drone hatches. It was unlikely that they would be filled. Most likely the company only supplied you with one drone. Probably a shoddy one at that.

“The Boss wants to see you as soon as everyone else gets here.” Kal’s voice dimmed as he turned away to direct several repair and maintenance projects.

Your attention turns to the company offices, high above the workshop deck. You can see the grey-haired figure of Madame Oshniv. You can feel her piercing gaze bore through your entire body.

I apologize for the amount of grammar mistakes in the above passage. I usually double check my writing before I post it, especially when it's this long.
Carter Corwin (played by floatch)

This looks awesome, I'd love to join. Does Carter look like a good character?
TheHornedMikhail Topic Starter

Carter seems like he'd be pretty good for the security position. Can you give him a more detailed personality, as in his likes, dislikes, and what he would and would not do in a variety of situations?
Carter Corwin (played by floatch)

Yeah no problem!
Caliburn

This looks great. Can I join?
TheHornedMikhail Topic Starter

Absolutely, go ahead and make a character and run them by me.
Dominick Dawson (played by Caliburn)

How does this guy look?
TheHornedMikhail Topic Starter

I like him, definitely room for some major character growth in there.

Major character growth as in through the RP or do you want me to add more to his character?
