Blocking a user
Go to their user profile, and then click "Block (their username here)" from the list of options underneath their profile image.
This will prevent them from sending you private messages, guestbook comments, kudos, items or group invitations.
They will not be able to use characters, even anonymous ones, from doing any of the above, either.
Please note, users you have blocked can still see your forum posts.
Blocking a character
Go to the character's profile and then click "Block" in the toolbar at the very top of the page.
This will prevent them from sending you private messages, guestbook comments, kudos, items or group invitations.
Blocking a character also blocks the user and all of their other characters, as well.
How do I stop blocking someone?
Navigate to Your account menu (it appears as your username) » Account Settings » Block List.
If you have blocked anyone, they will appear at the bottom of the page under the title "Blocked Users"
Click "Unblock" next to the name of a blocked user or character to unblock them.
Hide/show public posts from people I have blocked
Some people feel most comfortable not having to see people they have blocked. Others would like to make sure that people they have disagreements with are not posting things about them. Whatever your blocking style, we've got you.
Navigate to Your account menu (it appears as your username) » Account Settings » Block List.
Find the checkbox labeled "When I block someone, hide all their forum posts from me." Check or uncheck it as you see fit.
Click "save changes"
How does blocking interact with anonymous characters?
Blocking generally prevents either the blocked user or the blocker from contacting one another, giving each other kudos, responding in each other's forum topics, etc. However, anonymous characters might present some exceptions -- this is specifically to stop stalkers from trying to suss out all of someone's anonymous characters by temporarily blocking and sending a test message to an anon character to see if it bounces.
So, let's say you have Anonora as an anonymous character, and Publicinna as a public character that shows played by (your name).
If I block your user account, I will no longer be able to directly contact your user account OR Publicinna, because those two identities are known to me. However, I will still be able to send messages to Anonora, because it's likely I don't know that Anonora is also you. If it didn't work like this, it would create a simple loop where if you're the only person I have blocked, and I can't contact Anonora, suddenly I know that is definitely you and I can tell everyone I know about this knowledge, robbing you of your anonymity. For this same reason, if I were to block Anonora, I could still send a message to your main user account.
This doesn't work in the other direction -- if you were to block ME, on ANY of my characters, anonymous or otherwise, I could no longer contact Anonora, Publicinna, or your main user account. This is because I don't have a way to confirm how many people have me blocked, nor an easy and quick way to test by blocking and unblocking, so it's entirely plausible that Anonora and my user account are two entirely different people that I just happen to not be able to talk to.
This can occasionally lead to strange circumstances such as when a user blocks an anonymous character, while RPing with another character by the same user who happens to be public. This can lead to a situation where they can still send messages, but their partner can no longer reply. However, this is an edge case we have decided to live with in order to protect people's identities and privacy. If you think this has happened to you, please do not involve other users in an attempt to evade the block. However, feel free to reach out to a moderator. We can contact your RP partner on your behalf and inform them of the situation. They can then make an informed decision about whether they wish to lift the block or not.
