One morning, you find a small black orb resting on your doorstep or porch. When you pick it up, you'll find it to be warm to the touch, perfectly smooth and round. While held, you'll feel something around you, see something, visions of a strange and distant land, all while time around you slows down. If held too long, time will stop. The vision will seem more and more real, as though you are in the area that you first looked at. A tall green tree floating in air, blue crystal platforms around it. If you move, you will find you can interact with what's around you, and something is missing from your hand. You now stand in an entrance to the wonderful realm you first saw. Look up to the tree once more, something is sitting there, small, but moving.
Magic is fairly common. Players and NPCs important to the tale may have it. Mistborn.
Renaissance
Combat is woven into the storyline and could come to the forefront if the characters seek it out.
