Just struck me today. For at least 10 years of RP, whenever I made a shapeshifting character, we would always use the term “Shifter” instead of “Shapeshifter”. A quick glance at Almighty Lord Google and Co. reveals that this is something that Supernatural did, which may have made it more popular/widely used. I feel like it goes back farther though.
Of course this road of thought just kept going. What are some other words (used in RP or IRL) that we use similarly? I’m not talking about ATMs and the IMF abbreviations, but like how we say Coke instead of Coca-Cola and universally that’s understood not to mean the other cola, Pepsi.
