Forums » Planned Features » Profile builder overhaul: native columns(COMPLETE)

This is possibly the most ambitious goal that I have for 2.0, other than the mere fact of rebuilding everything. This explanation probably won't make sense until I actually sit down to do it and can share some screenshots/videos, buuuuut...

I would like to make RPR character profiles and group profiles natively support columns.

I don't mean BBCode columns. I mean being able to take a widget and adjust it to occupy 100% of the row width, or 2/3, 1/4, 1/2, and a variety of other fractions. This means that multiple widgets could sit next to one another on the same row, and provide for HUGE layout flexibility even by those who have no familiarity with BBCode. If you add BBCode into this mix, the possibilites explode.

Obviously this is a complex idea enough, but when you add backwards compatibility, hundreds of official templates and user-made templates as well, it gets very very hairy.

So... this is definitely something I plan to attempt as a major feature in the rebuild. I don't know how or if those attempts will pan out, but I'm going for it. ;) I think it will be one of the main modernizations the RPR experiences.

This would be great, if only for groups.
This. I love this. As soon as you mentioned native columns plus BBC coding, I screamed in happiness. No matter how long it takes, I don't mind at all! In fact, I can already see a new dossier/folder template with little snippet notes and larger card files in the form of native columns...

I think I blew my own mind. If that can be somewhat of a possibility with CSS, I'm on board; sign me up!
Yes! Is this going to be a feature for only epic users or everyone?

Everyone.
OMG...this sounds amazing :D
Hhhh the possibilities... This is going to be greattt!
I don't know what any of that means, but it sounds amazing! (hahaha)
This just struck me and it's likely a silly question:

Does this mean that we will be able to by-pass templates with really narrow site containers and the columns will be able to force the site container to be wider than coded? I'm really hoping so because there's so many templates I want to use but the site containers are way too narrow.

Unfortunately, no. Columns and rows will exist inside whatever space the chosen template provides.

My guess is that column-based layouts becoming common will put some "market pressure" on template designers to make sure that their template is wide enough for that to look good!
