Hey all. Trying out the designs/adopts to sell bug that's been going around and I had to wonder:

What would people buy? What do they look for in a design/adopt?

Is there a certain species or set of colors that would draw your attention? Does the design itself sell or the artist who draws it? I've seen little sketches and doodles that sell for $20+ and others who pour their heart into it but sell for less than $10. So I got to thinking and figured I'd put together a list of sorts on what the majority of adopt/design buyers want when they go fishing for artwork. I'd love to hear what people think!

Examples being unique/one of a kind base/pose, full figure+ (head shot/outfits/expressions), common species, unique species, physical additions (wings/claws/tail/fins/horns), added fun facts on the side, full character sheet etc.

I'd like to give it a try but I'd like to see what the general public looks for and would honestly consider buying so I know what would be best to create and sell.
My DA is below to see level of artwork along with the first design I submitted recently.

Well, I'm not one who purchases art, but I suppose I'll toss in my interests or what catches my eye.

It's usually a combination of things and it depends on what the character looks like. See, if I see a character armed to the teeth or something, I typically like a background to accompany it, especially if it's super detailed. If it's more anime-styled, which is one of my preferences, I won't really care for the background but more for the overall design.

Another thing that catches my eye is originality, one of the reasons I tend to gravitate towards anime art-styles. The most varied clothing, hair colors, and combinations of face tattoos, eye colors, and facial structure feels unique. Also, on the topic of color, I tend to look for a color scheme. Like, if I see a character based around a specific color scheme of say, Black and Purple like my OC Jet (who I have yet to put on RPR, also picture below) I tend to spot it quicker and enjoy it.

However, this is different from person to person. Someone might not look for a scene or color scheme, but instead maybe the character's facial expression or maybe specifically their clothing. It's hard to answer your question on a grand scheme.

Also, on the question of the artist selling, I'd have to say it'd be a maybe. I'd likely be bias to an artist I'd already know, but if I see something exceptional or pretty good from someone else, they'd obviously create a name for myself. However, if said artist doesn't get variety in their art and it just seems like reskins over and over, I'd lose interest in looking at it.

I hope I answered your question at least a little bit! ^.^
