Lights were lit around the camp, a trail that followed well into the town as braziers sprang to life. It was not completely dark yet but the sun was already low enough that the sky was a stunning purple, basking the badlands in a light that made it look sort of beautiful, in a rough kind of way.
The Legionairres had been briefed on their mission, this was the last day camping out here near the city of Predora before they'd move on to Kazmandius and claim this land for the empire once and for all. But now many of them began wandering into the city again to celebrate their last day, possibly literally the last. It was a rich city, settled around a lake surrounded by green which was unusual in these lands. Marble statues dedicated to gods and long-lost heroes lined the white-paved streets.
War had not damaged Predora much. As soon as the empire's warmachine came close enough and beat back the few defenders that hadn't pulled back to the enemy capital the city of traders had thrown open their gates and welcomed their new overlords. With how quickly it'd all went many in the legion believed that deals had been struck long before any of them had even laid eyes upon the city.
One of the centurions off-duty - a smirking red-haired lad - made his way through the row of tents to the smithy. "Hey Talin." He said when he walked into the small tent. "I'm going into the city, want t'join me?" He chuckled. "Last day to get some of that framed Predora wine."

The smith was busy making a particularly large horseshoe; he was so focused, in fact, that he didn't notice the legionnaire until he spoke up. The soot-covered man wiped the sweat from his brow. "Th' city? Only if ya promise me ya don't get in no fights I needsta help ya with." He stopped, put down his tongs, and crossed his arms, grinning. "I plan ta wake up t'morrow, wit' all my limbs still attached. Ya reckon they keeps that wine cold, this time o'year?"
"Of course! Although I'll drink it warm if I have to..." Serdan said with a smile, although the way his hands wringed betrayed him to be a bit nervous... the siege was going to be the first time he commanded a century in a proper battle after all.
