Blank (played by Luulu)

(In this world the Mutant gene has affected not humans, but animals. The most common mutation is the taking of human shape. Other mutations may happen in addition to this however. Anything that is possible in the X-Men universe is possible here.)

Carmen glanced down again, for what was the twenty-sixth time in as many minutes, and sighed. What she saw when she looked down were hands. Sure they were still covered in dark red fur like they should have been, but the fox had counted already fifteen times. She had four fingers and a thumb. Carmen knew the names of these strange things now, but hadn't a few days ago. How strange.

She sighed,

and how depressing. Her mouth felt different, all mushed together and wrongly shaped, but her tail was still there. That was her greatest relief. Carmen loved her tail, so bright and bushy and red with a white tip. The tail had always been a source of pride for her. The other animals in the forest were afraid of her now, more so than normally, but she supposed that came from the change...whatever it was.

Finally, after taking a deep breath, Carmen rose from the tree stump from which she had been sitting. Her furred feet, still pawed amazingly enough though larger than they use to be, wobbled underneath the difference in weight. Despite this, she could stand! On two feet! Reaching up the fox-girl nabbed a greet maple leaf from the nearest tree, and licked the newly fallen dew from it. She could reach the leaves now without jumping!

It was then that, without realizing it and without meaning too, Carmen burst into her very first, very human bubbly laugh. Red curls jumped in and out of her white face with the force of this laughter. This too, she found, felt great!

But what had happened to her?

A black panther swirled its tail towards itself as it sat high in a tree. Anticipating eyes wondered up and down the area beneath the sturdy tree branch. A short distance away from the panther, a very peculiar sight was developing into a scene so unnatural. The panther could not help but to slowly lean over the edge of the branch and jump out of the tree, only to land on the ground with a solid thump.

The prey still had the same colored tail, but it looked different. This difference gave the panther a pause, and then a thought. That thought came from a self-awareness most uncommon in panther. It too was changing, rapidly. Claws and pads became hands and fingers, feet and toes. The panther's face was became distorted, her muzzle shrinking, her fur receding but not completely disappearing, replaced by the dark chocolate skin. The coloring of the eyes became tinted in an amethyst hue. Bronze hair started to flow from her scalp, and still she stayed in a crouching position.

What was once a panther suddenly knew that she had a name, Narla. Narla felt colder than she was a few minutes ago, but did not mind at all. The dark fur that outlined itself into tribal markings on her skin and face was all that was left of her protective covering. It was hard to tell that Narla was anything but human, but it was not hard to tell that she was barbaric in appearance, not having the good luck of fur that covered her body, nor the sudden change in attitude towards her prey.

Slowly, Narla crept towards the other changed creature. Her hands felt odd on the ground beneath her, and her body was not cooperating, bent upwards and on all fours. But as soon as she moved within range, the attack commenced. Narla pushed off with her hind legs and outstretched her hands, moving her new fingers into claw-like grabbers towards the prey.

The idea was to tear and rip at the other strange creature, but something had changed her. For the better or for the worst is still unclear~

What would have once been the silent footfalls which would have brought death to the unsuspecting prey were now heavy thumps in the earth that roused Carmen's distracted instincts. She turned, just in time one might have supposed, to see what looked like a "human" bounding at her on all fours. Is that what they were called? Human? How do I know that? she wondered softly, amazed even now at the strange way this particular one seemed to move.

So amazed was she, in fact, that were the panther girl to continue on their path the two would collide in a frustrating clutter of arms and legs and fur and skin. Carmen yelped in surprise and fear, trying her best to call out to her mate and family. They had to get away, to run, there was a predator here!

The yelp never came. She couldn't make the sound with her voice anymore. This, more than any other change, upset and frightened her.

Narla's heart raced. It always did when the great hunt began, but something felt different. Her lungs were slower, her balance was off, and her tail slowly disintegrated into nothingness. The once sharp teeth of a huntress became dulled. But still she moved towards the prey in a determined fashion.

As soon as Narla collided with the prey, she tumbled her way over the prey, raking her back along the ground and coming to a halt at the base of a tree. The trees were much smaller now, but Narla's feet were up in the air and her arms on the ground. This would not do at all. Rolling over onto her side, Narla stood straight up and walked over to the prey, using her legs and swaying her arms idly.

Somewhere in her mind, something was happening, and at an alarming rate.

The "prey" had also stumbled to her feet. She felt a little more balanced now, and was managing to take several steps at a time backwards. Actually running was a bad idea, with these strange new limbs she'd never get far. Carmen knew she couldn't fight either, not in this shape, and not against that shape. The word "Human" kept swimming just outside of her brain, followed by "Danger" and "Rush" and "gunpowder". No, Carmen couldn't run, couldn't fight. Instead she braced her back against one of the tree's and forced her new mouth to get some kind of sound, any kind of communication out.

And it worked.

As soon as they happened she knew they were called "words" and that she was using "Syllables", though she didn't understand what that meant. She did understand though, what she had said. Carmen felt the predator might understand too.

"Wait! What..is...happening...to us?!"

Narla knew that the prey coud not escape her. Somehow, she knew that her body had changed to something less capable, but she did not feel handicapped. There was a primal instinct of power that coursed through Narla's body, caused by the prey's apparant defeat. It was if she moved in slow motion, her bare steps taking her closer towards the conered Carmen.

But then a noise that was vaguely familiar came out of the mouth of the prey. Those sounds, words, were only spoken by those that walked like Narla did...

The prey did too. The thought of both of them walking like other beings had Narla stop. Not to register the words spoken to her, but to re-think the situation. If the prey walked like Narla did...was the prey still prey? Narla's body relaxes as her mind comes to a conclusion. No longer was she the beast that hungered, but a new being.

"Şimdi biliyorum."

Narla had spoken, and the sound pleased her geratly, her tongue and mouth moving to exercise those muscles a bit, or perhaps somehow taste the motions her new mouth was made It was a natural language, secluded to the feline family before and even after transformations occur.
Narla's eyes drift back towards the fox girl. The tribal markings on Narla's face and upper chest were not made of fur anymore, but darkened skin, permenantly apart of Narla's being. It was then the fox girl's words were recalled. Narla blinked, "...us?"

"Us." Carmen repeated, her words barely more than a breath of air.

She said it again.

"Us."

Then paused, astounded by the thought. Her fear was shifting back and forth to and from excitement.

"Something has happened to..us. We are...different." Before she realized what she was doing, Carmen was smiling.

"We are...New." Her tail had remained, so had a pair of fox ears instead of her human ones. The rest of her, however, had continued to change without notice. Fur was receding into her body, becoming an orangish tanned kind of skin. She did not know it now, but humans would mistake her for having the orange fake tan many rich young ladies decide to get for themselves. She was shorter now too, than she had been moments before. If measured she would come to about five feet. Her hair was a dark chestnut brown now, tipped white at the ends.

"What happened. What are we?"

Carmen's eyes were pleading with Narla now, questioning that which she did not understand.

"Are there others?"
Sand Rats (played by Miss)

Narla looked at herself. Had she changed? Was it noticeable? Narla stared at her feet. In her being, she still felt powerful, she felt the same as she had always been. In the end, Narla couldn't decide whether she had changed or not, so she shrugged her shoulders and shook her head.

"Narla is same." Though her voice was barbaric and spoke a tongue uncommon to large felines , Narla was still Narla in her mind.

Narla nodded her head in agreement. Narla was a Narla, but the foxy-girl wasnn't a Narla, but they were somewhat similar. But would that make the foxy-girl a foxy-Narla? No that couldn't be, could it? Narla makes a seasick face and looks up at the sky. A groan, "Narla tilki değil..."

There was hardly a trace of what Narla was before the transformation. She was not tall, nor was she short. Her skin tone was much darker than the foxy-girl's, as if she lived in the sunlight. Her hair was long, wild, blackened, but clean. There wasn't an obvious factor of Narla's appearance that didn't mark her as a normal human being. The more native-like humans would love to take Narla in as one of their own, if it weren't for one small detail. Narla didn't have any clothes~

Foxy-girl was talking again, so Narla listened and watched her mouth move. Narla shook her head at first, but knew the answer as to what she was, "Narla is Narla." However, Narla's expression softened, looking for an answer to be read off of the foxy-girl's face. But there wasn't one and Narla didn't know what the foxy-girl was...other than smaller and weaker than Narla, much like...Narla interupts her thought with a jab of her finger towards the foxy-girl, "Is prey!" That must be it!

The excitement slowly ebbs down as Narla covers her eyes with her hand and looks about the place. Others? More Narlas and more preys? Narla's sharp eyes only found trees and shrubberies. "Not here." They could be hiding from Narla, a lot of smaller things did~

"No, no, no, no, not prey, not prey, not prey!" Carmen demanded, her voice more shrill than she meant it to be." She slammed one foot into the ground as if to prove a point. "Not prey any more!" She jabbed a finger back at Narla, her face defiant.

"Maybe Narla prey now!" And she narrowed herself down into a crouch as if to attack.
Only she didn't quite get the chance, voices interrupted.

"I can sense it, over here!" It was a male voice, deep, followed by a softer, more dangerous one.

"Are you sure? You were wrong last time, and we ended up getting chased by the bear."

"He turned eventually."

"Three weeks later!"

"I don't understand your point."

The voices were getting closer, causing Cameron to straighten herself in an effort to listen.

(There are two males heading towards them. Feel free to take one of them if you wish, or I'll pilot them both if you do not wish. Up to you. ^^. Sorry my posts are so short.)
