Ariku, a 17 year old arctic fox boy, was your best friend and one of the most admirable people you knew. He was a singer, a straight A student, and a polite man. However, under his bright and happy facade lied a deeply troubled boy who lived with immense depression. Whenever you two were alone, you'd see the darker side of him, constantly wondering if it was really worth it to live on or whether or not he truly had a place in life. He'd always end up with a smile on his face by the end, never staying in this state for long, but it was obvious that he was unstable.
One day, disaster struck. Ariku was driving his car to school and ended up in a catastrophic car accident. This ended up with his death, his head being injured horribly, blood staining the entire right side of his face. If things went even a little differently, he likely could have survived. But now, he's gone. And your character has to learn to live without him.
... Or at least, until his ghost appears.
Your character is now the only one who can see his spirit, still attached to the mortal world and without memories or the life in his eyes that once existed. Now, you must help him remember his past life and help him to move on to the afterlife.

Some magic. Few can use it, but most of the players probably won't have it. Magical characters will likely believe that they are all alone.
Modern
No combat. If problems arise, players may be expected to solve it without resorting to violence.
Some romance is possible, but the overall plot is more important.
