Miku V6 was previously teased last August with Miku and Crypton's official return to developing for their older, clearer voice engine, Vocaloid, after their New Tone engine flopped. However, their return version of Miku was technically a new Miku V4 (labeled SP). As a result, they teased an upcoming Miku V6 to release. And, just yesterday, her early access version just dropped! I got my filthy paws on her, and you can hear what I made here:

So, for those not in the know, here are some features Miku V6 has over her older releases:

- AI controlled automatic pitch bends
- Smoother vowels
- Smaller file size
- Power slider
- Slightly more realistic transitions and volume changes
- Differently placed consonants and vowels

Now, the big question is: is she better than her most popular release, V4X?
... Honestly, in my opinion no.

As you can hear, her consonants are pretty artificial and clicky, and she kinda sounds like she is singing out of her nose. This has been an apparently intentional quality introduced to her voice ever since New Tone, and frankly I dont like it. While there is some appeal to this very robotic style, I just wish they would stop, as its led to every Miku version since sounding the exact same. V6 is supposed to be a more realistic engine with its new AI voice features, and most people buying voicebanks for it want a more realistic sound. Why do they want to chase a stylized sound when Miku already has over 4 other voicebanks that sound exact same? Miku is meant to be a bastion of creativity, but Crypton is more focused on her "sounding like Miku" than acknowledging that some people want a more innovative feel. I genuinely cant tell the difference between V6 and her New Tone releases despite the vastly different technology in both. Frankly, I feel almost a little scammed. When I hear about a new Miku, I want her to sound new, not be more of the same that we've had since 2018...

But, what do you say? Do you think she's a worthy upgrade? Or do you share my opinion that they should be doing something new or more like her older releases?
