Hi everyone, I’m new here! But an experienced RPer.
I’ve always been interested in centaurs most of all but also mythological creatures like satyrs and minotaurs and also mermen, genies, gargoyles, or massively muscular like the Hulk, or transformation and becoming any of these sorts of things. In 2005 I went to college and had the internet 'at home' for the first time. Pretty quickly I found my way to furry since they seem to be furry-adjacent. A few years later I started doing chats and RPs around those sorts of places and I found my way to f-list and been there since at varying levels of activity. My first character over there is 14.5 years old. Can’t believe it’s been that long!
For me RPing stems from my fantasy of getting to experience becoming and being these sorts of things, whether intentional or not in the story. I really like focusing on the aftermath of becoming the thing and spending time exploring life in the new body, the character trying to fit into his regular life with his new, weird form, so called slice of life type things. I think the blending of human and animal opens up a lot of interesting avenues to explore and ways that a centaur wouldn’t quite fit or belong in either world, human or animal. A lot of the time in RPs I like to go toward exploring being in a relationship and how the partner stays with him and they adjust.
My big goal is to get writing stories about this kind of stuff and characters. I get a lot of ideas and write some scenes but I really struggle with figuring out where the story is going and why it exists. I like RP because it’s live so it forces me to get out of my head and just go.
When I RP I like to write in more of a story sort of format, writing 1-2 paragraph responses mixing dialogue and description and narrative. I've mostly done 1:1 RPs. I’ve had a few excellent RP partners over the years and still play with them now and then. Once you experience RPs with people who write well and you’re on the same wavelength with, it really raises the bar.
