So I have an idea for a Star Trek RP. It's called simming in the trek world. I spent my first few years RPing back in 2001 in a group called Bravo Fleet. It's still around. One of my goals is to build up our ship to the point where we can join the fleet, or at least interact with it. I made a group, so it can be more formal than a simple forum RP.

So as the commander, I'll be doing a bit of GMing, but there should definitely be input from the crew. I'd love to have thoughts on mission planning and other things. Our first mission is going to be a shakedown cruise filled with character development. We'll be free to have a side plots, while we also discuss mission ideas OOC.

How does it work? Each person writes from the prospective of their officer. You can be a department head, or if that position is taken, you can be the assistant chief or be an officer in that department. I'll list the open positions at the end of this post.

As far as ranks, let's keep it simple. The CO will be a commander, the XO will start as a lieutenant commander, department heads will start at lieutenant (junior grade) and other officers will be assigned ensign. This leaves room for promotions and development. It's more in keeping with Bravo Fleet and online simming as opposed to the series.

Let's keep the characters original and the species to Star Trek accepted species. If you want to make an original race, that's fine. But no Star Wars races or anything like that.

To join the fleet we'd need 6 active players. My goal for a good start here is 3 or 4 interested writers. I'm looking for detail in posts, with at least a few, descriptive paragraphs per post. If you don't know a ton about Trek or feel rusty in the genre, don't worry. I'll send you a few links to brush up on some things, or even just to get better acquainted with the ship.

I can also send you a link to a site where you can get an avatar like this character's. There are many actors to choose from and you can even pick your department's uniform.

So, here are the positions currently being recruited:
Executive Officer
Chief Security/Tactical Officer
Chief Flight Control Officer
Chief Operations Officer
Chief Engineering Officer
Chief Science Officer
Chief Medical Officer
Chief Counselor
Morale Officer
Civilian (shopkeeper, chef, barber, etc.)

Think of specialists in your department that might make good NPCs. For example:
Brig Officer (Security)
Shuttlebay Manager (Flight Control)
Transporter Chief (Operations)
Damage Control Specialist (Engineering)
Astrometrics Officer (Science)
Head Nurse (Medical)

Feel free to apply as a specialist. Keep in mind some may be enlisted jobs. This includes other roles you can think of.

Would you be accepting of a Klingon executive officer?

Yeah! I'm sure a Klingon XO could make for some interesting angles. Would he be in Starfleet? Or a KDF exchange officer?

Excellent! The idea is for them to be an exchange officer from the Klingon Defense Force, if that's alright.

Are you both okay with the ranks I proposed in the earlier post? Lieutenant for Chief Security/Tactical. Sogh la' for the KDF's version of Lieutenant Commander? Or is there a different rank that would translate to Lt. Cmdr.? Different RP groups might use different ones, I've seen a few.
