More or less yeah, that's a pretty good way of putting it.

In the beginning with my Absorption ability if I want a power permanently, like Sklar from Heroes, I have to cut off my victims Scalp and literally mess around in their brain till I find what grants them access to their powers. Later on as refine the ability it changes to remembering emotional attachments to powers to recall them..

Superboy needs the sun to fuel his powers, do you have a source you must rely on...

Well Zero doesn't really have a power.He's part of a race called the Solorians that have monkey tails.He goes thru intense martial arts training to get stronger and when the people of his race get angry enough they can go into a transformation that boosts his power.
