There were whispers in the court about the loathing for the Emperor, Janven Mertoil. Mertoil had caused a few accidents for people he disliked, put toil on certain families and creating an overall distaste for the kingdom.
Prince Cassius Mertoil, his second son was well known for his kindness and generosity towards his kingdom, his loving relationship towards his parents and his deep sadness for his late sister. Cassius had now become a target of the whispers and rumours, and now rumours had started of his possible assassination if his father did not give up his crown, or step aside. Mertoil had already a Mage of his own to protect him and his wife but not one for his son. Employing your character to protect his son you are invited to the palace, a lovely and cold place to be.

Thanks for reading that, in basic terms...possible friendship?? take over?? you actually gonna kill him??? The idea is pretty open ended, there could be possible romance, friendship or whatever. Might make a good rival?
Do feel free to talk about what you might want to change in the rough draft. If you could do more than three lines that would be cool...ya know...if you wanna...buddy.

Magic may be accepted as truth but is not common. It might be harnessed only by specific beings. Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones.
Renaissance
Distant war may be part of the setting, but any scenes that happen to involve combat will likely be summarized, not played out in detail.
Romance is desired but not required, and will balance evenly with other plot.
