Your homeworld is slowly dying. The only hope is to find a new home. Spacecraft engines are now capable of reaching speeds startlingly close to the speed of light; and for the first time, colonisation of already-habitable planets seems a possibility. It's a long-term mission out in the void of space with only the hull of the ship separating you from a deadly vacuum... and you are not alone...

The Shining Hope has been sat in orbit for a month now, waiting for the last of its crew to arrive. Scientists, colonists and military personnel share their new home with representatives of private interests. This joint-funded mission, shared between governments, space agencies and corporations is the first of its kind - a voyage toward a distant world that stands to represent the future of all life from your homeworld. It is a journey that will take decades... maybe even centuries... but should it be successful, a dark future will regain a glimmer of hope.
But deep within the bowels of the ship, trouble is brewing. Political intrigue, terrorist cults, alien infection and a strange ethereal entity... will you be able to tell friend from foe quickly enough to save the mission from certain failure? Can you protect the lives of the 300-strong crew? Or will the Shining Hope be doomed to become your coffin?

I've been watching Nightflyers... and it's given me massive inspiration to work on a similar (but somewhat different) scenario. I love the concept of a colony vessel being subject to a psychological horror situation, and wanted to build on that in my own way.
My character Drifter here will be one of the potential threats to the ship. I don't want to go into more detail, because it'd be more fun if I didn't spoil it.
This idea is 1x1... though I might put up a group version if I could find a way to do it, given it's a long-term idea and in my experience, groups tend to loose members important to the plot far too quickly.
Non-human species are welcome, but keep in mind that since this is a heavily-GMed scenario, I will retain creative control over the crew and might introduce governments/corporations/etc that might not fit within your vision of your species. The more info you have about the species on your character's profile, the better I can fit the RP to your original vision.
On very, very, rare occasions there may be unexplained, POSSIBLY supernatural events. Minor "environmental" magic. Perhaps implies the existence of a deity or supernatural entity. Or perhaps it's just tricks?
Far future, perhaps interstellar travel (generation ships)
Unrest may be part of the setting, but any scenes that happen to involve combat may be summarized.
