For years, the Terran Syndicate has controlled mankind. Itself barely more than a megacorporation for which all other commercial and industrial endeavours are a subsidiary, the Syndicate rewards the rich and the enterprising; and suppresses all others. The basic workforce are but slaves. Two clusters of star systems have declared independence - the democratic Federation of Free Worlds and the totalitarian People's Republic of Nova Atlantica.
Amidst the war, a new faction emerges, seeking a fourth way. Integration into a multi-species union of semi-autonomous stellar governments, the Alliance of Independent States. Surrendering the option of becoming a fully independent human state in return for military aid from other small alien factions. They maintain a cautious alliance with the FFW and an uneasy truce with Nova Atlantica. Their short-term aim: cement their claim to the systems who have declared membership of the Alliance; and assist their brothers and sisters in the FFW in achieving the same goals. A pair of ace pilots in particular take a pivotal role of freeing these desperate people from their former oppressors...

Players aged 16+ are preferred. If you're a year or so younger than that and feel you're more mature than average, we can discuss things, but there will be extra limits set on RP to keep everyone comfortable regarding the age gap.
This is a multi-paragraph RP. If you feel you can't maintain a pace of about 2 paragraphs average per post, this might not be for you. Also, expect long posts from me early on - don't feel obligated to keep up with them and don't expect them to persist throughout; it'd be mostly due to me setting the scene.

Xá'Taren examined the pair of experimental craft with great interest. They were certainly unique. Long-range strike craft capable of multi-role assignments, yet with all the speed and fragility of light interceptors. In the hands of a newbie pilot, these were coffins with engines strapped to them. To a skilled pilot, they were exciting prospects. Well... mostly exciting. Xá was not looking forward to having to spend long periods of travel in one of those tight cockpits. Still... there was always a compromise somewhere in vessels like this.
Xá's thoughts turned to his potential wingman. He wondered just who they were going to be. Would they be a human native to one of the systems that were critical to this war? Or another non-human being interested in helping out a new fledgeling member of the Alliance? Whatever the case, he was looking forward to meeting them.
With curiosity on his mind, Xá took a few steps toward the other being currently waiting in the hangar. A spaceborne being covered in green scales, from which a number of semi-transparent electric-violet tentacles sprouted, the creature was smaller than a fighter craft, but larger than Xá. It was currently supported by a series of six small, stubby, pointed legs, acting as little more than landing struts that only offered slow and ungainly land locomotion. They could be fully retracted into the being's body when in flight.
"What do you think?" Xá asked the creature. He knew full well it had no capacity for hearing without some form of radio device to send the words electronically, but it was comforting to pretend. Imagining a response in his mind created from his experiences of the being's personality, he continued talking as if it had heard him and replied. "I thought as much." He patted it on its hull. "I'm sure you'll warm up to them. You got used to me after all."
Xá's imaginary conversation was interrupted by the sound of the hangar's inner door opening. He snapped to attention and gazed excitedly toward the entrance. At last, he was going to meet his new partner...

I'm looking for a partner to play as the other Alliance of Independent States pilot. You can play as an alien member, an alien mercenary or a human member. You can also play as an FFW or Nova Atlantica expeditionary if you'd prefer.
If you're interested, please choose one of these descriptions that you feel best suits your character. It'll determine how they're treated and how I scale the abilities of other characters around them (if you think your character fits more than one, pick the one that suits them the most):
- The Ace (One of the best fighter pilots in the war)
- The Leader (A capable squadron commander)
- The Tactician (A skilled thinker in military tactics)
- The Engineer (A skilled engineer who knows their way around a space fighter)
- The Veteran (They may not be an ace, but they've seen far more battle than most)
- The Brute (Sure, they don't fly fancy, but they know how to get things done. Preferably the old fashioned way)
The specifications of the fighter will be explained more ICly when it comes up.
Whilst the war and various missions will be forefront to the plot, they won't encompass all of it. There'll also be elements of life aboard the command ships and stations RPed out. But expect ship-to-ship combat to be a regular occurrence.
No magic at all.
Far future, perhaps interstellar travel (faster than light)
More combat than not. The setting may be at war, and the characters will likely get involved whether or not they seek it out.
