A quick note about AFK topics

Posted by Kim on August 5, 2015, 1:15pm

It's the middle of summer and many of you are heading out on trips, visits, or even working summer jobs. We'll miss you!!!

But this time of year also means that our forums get an unusual number of topics with titles like "To my RP partners", containing notes about when someone will be unavailable for RP.

We want to remind everyone that our forums are visited by hundreds of people every day. Please help us reduce topic clutter by delivering messages meant for a few people directly to those people! If the primary purpose of your post is to let your RP/chat partners know that you won't be around for awhile, don't post it! Private message your RP/chat partners directly instead, or post a message in your actual RP topics where you can be sure your partners will see it. Otherwise, you run the risk that the people the post was intended for will never see it, while at the same time definitely inconveniencing a few hundred people for whom the topic isn't relevant.

Last month we put up a notice in the Smalltalk forum that starting in August, moderators would be deleting these types of topics on sight. Most of you have already gotten the message and adjusted your posting habits, so this is just a little reminder that this Saturday is the day enforcement starts. :)

By all means -- tell us about your life events, ask for recommendations of things to try in the area you're visiting, see if any members want to meet up with you at a convention; just don't create an entire topic merely to say you're busy and won't be around for a few days.

You can still post topics that contain discussion content, yes.
