Victorian Character Style

Posted by Kim on January 10, 2024, 9:00am

I promised during the Lemonade Stand that if we pushed past goal #2, I would design and release a popularly requested character style. We did smash that goal, and so I embarked on the design process. I chose the prompt "Victorian," which has for years been one of the most popular requests, and was in full force in the requests at that time as well.

I have struggled for YEARS with this prompt, and always bailed out because I couldn't quite figure out what Victorian meant. Victorian... studies? Tea parties? Calling cards? Fashions? Cities? Wallpaper? Birding illustrations? I had always felt so overwhelmed I never quite settled anywhere. But I decided the lemonade stand goal was the kick in the pants that I needed to finally buckle down and figure it out.

And then I struggled again for a couple more months, on and off between working on Operation Terra Incognita. But never did I forget my promise!

Now, finally, I have something I'm happy enough with to release. :D Meet Victorian Filigree, a take on the maximilast typography designs of Victorian hand bills.
