What's The Holdup?

You may have noticed that the normal pace of visible development has slowed down. Way down. A lot of things that were scheduled to be ready now aren't anywhere to be seen.

The good news is that there's actually been a lot of development going on. Epic accounts are still poised on the brink of release, and groups are rapidly approaching the point where they can be made available for public testing. Not being able to show you today is just torture.

The bad news it that we've run into a conflict with our hosting that has caused serious delays in public releases. In a nutshell, I want certain security in place before I even think about handling anyone's personal information, and our hosting doesn't want to support those security features. So, rather than compromise safety, I've been going through the arduous process of seeking out potential new hosts and conducting feasibility tests to see where the Repository might best thrive. There are still a few last tests to run, but a pretty clear winner is emerging from the pack.

We should be moving to our new host sometime early in the new year. Though I expect a few rocky days as all our DNS records update, once things settle down we'll have a major roadblock out of our way, a more secure site, and a slew of new features waiting to be revealed. And by Grabthar's Hammer, once we get there I am going to have that celebration we've been talking about since the 1000th user if it kills me.

The priorities list I posted last month is still basically the plan, and in fact that list is nearly half complete. Once all that is out of the way, what would you like to see made top priority for 2011?

Here's hoping you all had happy holidays!
