Sir Williams (played by Gunslinger13)

New Steamland was an industrial nation to the west of most other nations and mainlands, bi-planes and airships fly over head but with the boom of technology came the fall of magic. Less then half a dozen still practiced all over the nation, but other then that it seemed to be lost to our world. The four classes of people are Brutes, Criminals, Doctors, and Gunslingers. But can these people stop the embers of civil conflict from blossoming into the fire of war.

The three main cities are Darkwall to the North that are run by Homunculi (Alchemically created race of human/elves), Goldhark the capital run by Humans, and Sky Harbor a city way to the south run by a council of the last Mages in the world, the city itself is levitating about a few hundred feet in the air. The problem was that most people hated Homunculi and Darkwall wasn't on great terms with the capital of Goldhark and we sit on the edge of war.

((We start in either Darkwall or Goldhark, your choice! Homunculi or Human?))

Shay strode down the walk, her boots landing heavily on the wooden boardwalk, the familiar weight of her pistol swaying gently in its holster at her hip. She was dressed for movement; calf high leather boots well worn and comfortable, dark leather leggings, and a flight style vest on her torso. A pair of goggles hung from a strap around her neck and the faint red outlines around her eyes and face suggested that she'd been wearing them recently. Her dark hair was cut shoulder length and unobtrusive as the wind kept her bangs out of her eyes.

The job was done and she was freelance again, the faint jingle of coin from somewhere on her body attesting to having been paid in full. Oh wards and upwards to better things, she hoped. Shay wasn't particularly fond of being used for muscle, least of which the types of men who often hired muscle weren't the brightest lamps to be seen.

But now that was behind her and she looked out on the city of Goldhark before continuing on. A relaxing night at an eatery and perhaps an inn room with a hot bath later would do her well. She'd been traveling for weeks and was looking forward to some rest before this war that everyone feared flared up and destroyed them all. If one listened to rumors the residents of Darkwall were lining up even know to do just that. Shaylee suspected that were she to walk the streets of the other city, she'd hear the same rumors about the people here lining up to destroy them.

It was now as Shaylee walked home from he quest that she heard it, similar to the sound of fire works and the roar of a hundred lions Darkwall Bomber Plane soared over head dropping explosives down on the city! Boom, boom, boom, boom! Buildings lit up like the night sky, Homunculi pilots soared around coming for another drop on the city! Goldhark was very much in danger as the twenty or so bomber cris-crossed the city once, twice, three times. An explosion on the boardwalk through Shaylee up into the air and then down into the canal!

Around the time the first bombs fell, Skye Williams was working on his plane. He was a pilot but had been drafted by Goldhark against his will to be a Gold Hawk Pilot, he wasn't big into fighting but he did own his fathers rifle and he built a plane with the help of his older brother. Boom! As the second round of bombing started Skye had no idea where his brother Jordan was but he knew not many pilots would have the same luck he did. Hopping in his air craft he turned it on, taking off during the third wave of bombs he was up above the bombers by the time the fourth wave destroyed the boardwalk. "Time to shoot down some bombers!"

And there the world went, turning her idle dismissive thoughts completely on their head as the loud explosions began. She looked up, easily able to see the shape of the Darkwall bombers overhead, but there was no time to stand in horror or shock. She began running as the explosions and loud booms, like the inhalations of a giant followed by the roar of an avalanche, got closer and closer. Small bits of flying wood splinters and other debris peppered her body, cutting her coat and leggings even as she raised her arms to protect herself.

Abruptly, Shaylee felt the world spin as one of those bombs landed on the boardwalk behind her. She lifted into the air, concussive force throwing her like a rag doll as any scream she would have made was ripped from her lungs by the pressure. She landed in the canal, landing hard despite the presence of the water and her best efforts to roll on impact. She winced, clambering back to the side of it, knowing that was going to be a hell of a bruise on her hip later. Now-wet hair plastered her face as she scanned the area. There were planes launching into the air, she could see... Shay was a passable pilot in her own right but lacking a vehicle that limited her options. Looking to her left, she saw an elevated platform, upon which a gunner crew was mounting an anti-aircraft gun. They turned the wheels of the mechanical device, elevating the barrel skyward, and began launching shells into the sky in an effort to shoot down the Darkwall aircraft.

Another bomb dropped nearby, Shay ducked her head for cover, and debris tore through most of the crew that had just bravely tried to assist the city.

She got up, sprinting as best she could over to the gun, ascending the ladder leading towards it. A quick and agile motion, despite the pain in the left side of her body, saw her in the gunners seat. The men were dead or dying about her, only one still looked conscious but dazed.

"You!" She yelled to him. "Yes, you! Snap out of it, you can be confused later!"

He gradually rose to his feet, shakily.

"Keep loading this thing as I run out of rounds." She instructs while brooking no argument. "And we'll see if we can't give those planes launching some covering fire!"

The man nodded and Shaylee gripped the controls, tracking the large numbers overhead, and letting the gun boom her defiance back against their attackers. She tracked the progress of the planes from the city gaining altitude, making sure not to fire at the targets they were engaging, and throwing hot lead into the air at bombers coming in from different angles.

As Skye reached the clouds a Bomber turned inparalelle to the others, but before he could fire anti-aircraft gunner down bellow hit the drop hatch exploding the plane out of the sky! Williams turned sharply and swooped low focusing fire on the cockpits as a dozen bombers approached, pulling the trigger one fell out of the sky making impact with the mouth of the canal bellow, Skyr dog rolled, firing again another bomber burst into flames. "Burn in the Ether you Homunculi Son's of Test Tubes!" The bomber made contact with a large packaging factory and Mr. Williams felt kinda bad, it was his city they were falling on.

Around him about half of the bombers had been taken out by the half dozen other Bi-planes that manages to find wind beneath their wings and the anti-aircraft Gatling gunners down in the city! But looking around Skye was the last "Gold Hawk" in the sky. "Uh oh... Fifteen on one..." Skye began to fire how many more could he take out before he died??? Death was inevitable but worth it to try and save his city!

rolled 1d12 and got 9
How Many Bombers does Skye shoot down???

The Goldhawk planes just weren't lasting long against the Darkwall bombers. The plus side, if it could be called that, was Shay had to worry far less about friendly fire. When the sky was decidedly unfriendly it was easy to just shoot at everything. So she did as the Goldhawk planes fell, still mindful of her few allies, until eventually only one remained. Between the bombs and crashing planes, there were fires starting all over the city and bells rang out as people worked to contain them despite the danger above.

Shay watches as the lone remaining pilot executes a flurry of rapid maneuvers and begins to duck and weave in the air. Bombers fall, one then two, twelve in total leaving only three in the sky! The woman cranks the gears controlling her guns direction and elevation, spewing forth hot lead from her weapon and into the bombers fuselage. Another spins and begins to fall, firing on the second then the third, until finally at great length it looks like all the current wave was repulsed or had retreated. Another wave could be coming... they weren't out of the woods yet.

"He looks pretty shot up, up there." The barrel of her gun was glowing red from the heat of the battle and a sheen of sweat covered Shaylee's forehead. "I'm not sure he's going to be able to land..."

She climbed down from the gun.

"C'mon." She said more to herself as obviously the pilot up there couldn't hear her thousands of feet below. "Adjust your angle... you're going to stall..."
Sir Williams (played by Gunslinger13) Topic Starter

It was too late, stalling wasn't the issue the second round of bombers looped around and began firing again! Six bombers fired and one of the wings of Mr. Williams plane began to shatter, smoke plumes from the back of his plane as the pilot plummeted down. Crashing into a large church bellow, he had tried steering out of the way but his controls were completely destroyed! Blood everywhere as CRASH!!! The plane came to a halt smoke and screams everywhere as a jagged piece of metal had imbedded itself in his chest.

Out of the 30 bombers in the air, Skye shot down 9, other pilots shot down 7, and ground gunners got 8. "First thing I do..." Skye coughed blood looking at the jagged metal in his chest, piercing his heart. "First thing I do after being a bad ass... I go and die?" And with that Skye got cold and faded into the abyss, for now that is.

Shaylee tracks the falling planes movements with her eyes, cursing low under her breath. So much death, so many down... why hadn't Goldhawk been better prepared? Questions for which there were no answers at the moment and they scarcely mattered anyways. Done was done. She made her way towards the closest wreck and the plane she'd just seen crash. Her gait was quick if slightly limping, owing to her injured hip, but she made her way to the church and began climbing over the debris.

Reaching the cockpit, she saw the pilot slumped inside, and she reached down to fumble for the restraints that would hold him in during maneuvers. The church could catch fire any moment and judging by the smell in the air, his plane might well be leaking superheated steam. She could heat a hissing from below them and she doubted either of them wanted a Viking funeral. Shay let out a hiss when she saw his chest wound but a quick pair of fingers on the side of his neck felt a pulse.

"Come on, you heavy lug." She grunts, reaching her arms around his chest and under his own, lifting as best she could. "You don't get out of this that easily."

The pilot Shaylee found was dead, he had been decapitated by the glass of the cockpit.

Across the City of GOLDHARK, the planes of the Gold Hawk Airforce had fallen all over, most aimed for the Canal, or buildings such as churches and factories. Pilots had been told that if you get shot down aim for buildings like these because under air raid it is better to fall on a church or factory rather then a hospital or residency. Skye's plane had crashed on the complete opposite side of the city from where Shaylee was, it would be a few hours walk for her to reach him but by now there was no way to know where in the city he fell.

Feeling less gunners down bellow the six Bombers above felt cocky enough for one more sweep! Explosions riddled the city one last time before the six bombers escaped towards Darkwall! A bomb erupted near the church where Shaylee was and the building collapsed on her, the dead pilot, and the plane! Wood covered her body and stone and metal...

As the sun rose rescue crews searched the city for the fallen planes, but every pilot had died in the crashes. Well everyone accept one who was in a coma and had a jagged piece of metal in his chest. He was put in the hospital in the room next to a woman who was in a collapsed church!

Shaylee will wake up in a hospital bed, in a room right next to Skye, who is in a coma.
Sci-Fi Characters (played anonymously)

Consciousness gradually returns, blue eyes blinking open and slowly focusing around the room. She could hear voices and carts moving about, somewhere. The light was bright and she closed her eyes again, lifting her head slightly and, re-opening them, looking around. She was in a hospital bed, that much was certain, dressed in the generic gown all patients wore. What had happened?

The church... the dead pilot... a collapse...

Her head hurt and she lay it back again, looking over next to her and at the unconscious figure in the next bed. Sleeping maybe... or in a coma. More patients. More victims of the Darkwall attack. How long had she been here? Shay hadn't a clue... hopefully a nurse would be in soon. Until then, she tried her best to sit up once more. Her hip still hurt and she reached down, pulling up the edge of her gown and looking at the deep black and blue bruise that covered most her leg on that side.

A few doctors placed Skye on a mobile bed and pushed him out of the room, out of the way, heading to surgery! Doctors and Nurses got out of the way but the room was still bustling with commotion, every room filled, every bed occupied. One of the doctors was asking a patient across the hall to leave the hospital, but Doctor, I just got stitches can't I stay one more day?!? The doctor explained the over crowding and the patient was lead out of the room to make way for the same man who loaded the gun for Shaylee the night before! Burns look too bad, he probably won't make it without surgery and the last operating room just filled up with a Mr. Williams from room A2! The brave man's life was most likely forfit for a reason as dumb as bad timing...

In the surgical table in the last available operating room was Mr. Williams. The doctors had opened him up and removed his entire heart, if they removed the jagged piece of metal alone he would have bled out in seconds. This way he could be put on a mechanical blood pumper, a small gear powered device in his chest that needed to be turned each day by a key to continue working! The surgery would take 6-8 hours, so let's catch up with Shaylee!
Sci-Fi Characters (played anonymously)

The sounds of the hospital drifted to and fro across her ears and with the medicine they had her on, Shaylee was really only aware of half of it, if that. She watched as they wheeled her injured roommate out, as she saw the man who'd helped her on the gun get wheeled past and she said a silent thanks for his bravery in remaining at his station. The death toll was immense, she was sure, heard in half-whispers and fearful talks from others coming in and out of the room to check on her as well as in the hall. She didn't know what more they could have done, however. At least those few brave pilots had managed to down some of the bombers before they'd dropped their loads even as she'd done what she could from the gun.

Judging by her injuries, she wasn't going anywhere anytime soon, and she was more worried about what they'd done with her possessions when she could catch a nurse or doctor for more than a moment. The gun was newer and she'd just been paid; color her paranoid but even in the midst of tragedy there were often those waiting to profit by opportunity. Shay didn't fancy being ripped off while she laid about like an invalid.

She wasn't a difficult patient but she did test her physical limits through the day. Her leg was swollen and stiff where she'd fallen but she could move it at least, even if it hurt. Nothing seemed broken though, judging by the tape wrapped around her torso and chest, cracked ribs were possible.

Surgery Continues...

A doctor approached Shaylee and looked at a chart, "I'm so sorry to tell you this..." He looked over her chart again, "yeah we're gonna need this bed for a burn victim from the orphanage." The doctor hailed a nurse and requested Shaylee's within five to ten minutes Shaylee's belongings were ALL at her bedside. "We really are sorry to do this, normally we would keep you another two or three days but you know the situation." And with that Shaylee was escorted out to front steps of the Hospital where groups of people are being treated by lower class doctors in the actual streets outside the actual building. Pillars of smoke rose from the city in rivers that preached the events of last night to the world, teams of mages worked around the clock putting out fires all around GOLDHARK, what would Shaylee do now?
Sci-Fi Characters (played anonymously)

There was no arguing that her injuries weren't as severe as the others. Shaylee had only nodded, getting dressed in her clothing and then, making sure her pistol was still loaded, re-securing it at her hip and stepping outside. The people outside the hospital were in bad shape as well she could clearly see and the smell of smoke hung heavily on the air even as pillars of it still hung in several places over Goldhark. No doubt the mages had their hands full though magic wasn't a talent Shay had ever possessed more than an inkling of. Perhaps if she honed it more... though right now it mattered little.

She walked away from the hospital with a stilted gait, courtesy of her injured side, and was in no rush to join the fray. War was good for business all the same and no doubt Goldhark would be hiring on privateers and mercenaries. She'd been a soldier once, not so long ago as it felt, and a woman had to eat. First though? First she was going to find somewhere to rest this leg of hers. Maybe there was an inn or hotel that hadn't burnt down that she could score a cheap room off of.

Skye is still in surgery.

A few hours pass and even hotels that are half destroyed are charging double if not triple, families with destroyed houses filled every room complaining about the high prices and getting in verbal fights with eachother for the bigger rooms. Train stations were also packed, being safe as far as strong blast proof over hang structures people fled there during the onslaught of last night. Every bench was filled with a sleeping or wounded body. Trains filled up fast heading for the southern country sides, both train stations looked this way. And without free rooms some people were knocking on the lucky strangers doors, people who's houses weren't hit by the events of last night.

It was only a matter of time before the mass looting started. One shop keeper calls out to Shaylee, he was a taller dwarf named Ulfgar and was the owner of Dwarf Forge Gunshop. "My shop may be in danger in the next few days of looters, and above my shop is my wife and two kids..." He was very concerned for the life of his family and the well being of his shop... "I'll pay a good amount for you to stay here with us and help us defend it... 100 Shillings a night?"
Sci-Fi Characters (played anonymously)

A Dwarf Forge Gunshop? In the midst of tragedy, fate had a kindness yet for her. Shay's lips split into a grin and she nodded to the stout man, approaching closer. Public transit was a lost cause and she didn't want to leave the city at any rate, all future jobs would be here no doubt. Shay was more than capable of keeping looters in line, or failing that, plugging the most audacious and making the weaker willed ones think better of it,

"Protection is one of my specialties, Ulfgar." The woman nods. "And I'm more than willing to help guard your wife and children from harm."

Not to mention herself; it would be safer inside than out.

"100 shillings a night and a discount at your store after." Shay ups the bargain. "I'm well worth it."
Sir Williams (played by Gunslinger13) Topic Starter

Ulfgar
"We will sure see about that won't we," as dusk approached yelling and screams could be heard from the poor areas of the city. This area was relitively quiet, but around two or three in the morning a brick was thrown through Ulfgar's shop window but looking outside the coast looked clear.
