A wolf's howl was more than just the tune. It was a way to hear the soul. The true and raw form. The howl was used to for communication, finding their true mates, getting in tune with their one and only gift that set them apart from the rest.
That was the moon's gift to the wolves as long as the wolves held up to their end of a century long promise. To only sing for the moon and no other planet. Not Saturn who belonged to the Fox or Pluto's bears. Jupiter loved it's lynxs' and so on. If a wolf turned to another life planet, they would change into something that wasn't wolf or the chosen planet's beloved. They would be shunned and stripped from their gift. The only way to return to the moon's favor was to bathe in the pool which is hidden away in a cave with a hole in the top for the moon's rays to shine through. Diving under they will wait till their consence slipped away long enough for the moon to test and wipe the soul clean.
The problem was some wolves wanted that form. Some defied the moon and the more wolves that strayed, the dimmer the moon got....here the forest, no moon would mean no light...or soul.
So the moon sent down Skye, whose body appeared shimmering as her fur swayed softly in the wind. Save them Skye...

(This is actually on earth. The planet's are seen as gods and they bestow a gift according to the wolf's soul. I really just want just wolves and no humans, but the power or "gift" would be fine. The reason being is that the number between human and wolf would never be even, there would be more on one side than the other.)
