An open-ended RP with an element of fantasy:

Background

Legend tells of a vast underground network of caverns filled with beautiful glowing mushroom trees and a variety of strange and wonderful fungi and plantlife. The size of a large country and only accessable through certain hidden entrances, this was a land almost completely severed from the surface above. Here, animals born of the very fungi itself roamed; sentient and otherwise. An alien landscape beneath the soil.

But it was not the only underground landscape on this planet. Deeper still beneath the ground lay a place filled with darker, more dangerous beings. The dark elves and dwarves driven from the surface; tentacle-faced monstrosities known to suck the brains from their victims; many-eyed floating orbs of flesh with huge gaping maws... And when miners from this land dug their way through to the mushroom forest, their first thoughts lay on exploitation.

The forest was ravaged. Its inhabitants were purged. And amongst the species wiped out by the invaders were the roaming myconoids - sentient mushroom bipeds with humanoid proportions. Only one such creature survived the massacre - a child, barely in its teens.

With only isolated pockets of the forest still free of exploitation, that child must find its way in the wider world. Just what awaits him as he leaves his conquered home?



Details

Looking for someone who can guide this young being into finding a new life outside of the ravaged mushroom forest.

Your character can be either:

1) A surfacer who meets Yaki not long after he has left the underground

2) A fellow forest inhabitant who also wants to escape the invaders

3) A denizen of the deeper underground with the potential to turn their back on their own people for their violent actions against the mushroom forest

Your choice whether the RP should take the characters back into the mushroom forest, down into the deeper underground or out into the surface world.

Format: 1x1

Pref. long term.

Setting of the surface can be altered to fit your character and can range from sci-fi to modern to fantasy.

Be sure to check Yaki's character profile for anatomic information on the myconoids (images of the character will be uploaded when I next have access to a scanner).

i just dropped my cookies but i don't even care so i have an idea and a question (or maybe a few) my Ceshokiesh he is from a "twisted wonderland" but i have very little information on it and i usually play him as falling into other's realms but the story you have here really catches my interest and i was thinking maybe either (if your willing to Rp with me) he come's from the deeper underground (he would be played as more of a dark humored than anything) or if you are willing maybe he is a cross breed of the mushroomed land and the deeper underground (i can edit him into this i love the idea so much) his history says his father never showed and his mother abandon him but i'd love to see him in this setting either way so please let me know if you are willing to talk further!

i would also love to do art for this if you like (from characters to landscapes anything you like just ask if you like~!)

The thing with the mushroom forest is that everything there has either evolved from the fungi or had its evolution influenced by it from the long-term exposure to the spores (some of which had become parasitic in nature). That doesn't mean your character can't be from the forest - there are loads of small cave routes leading to the deeper underground and the surface, so it's entirely possible that immigrants from either location could have settled in very small numbers before the attack (no more than small tribes of under 20-or-so people in each group; I want to maintain the unspoiled wilderness background of the forest, and larger groups would end up building villages and stuff). The immigrants would only have been around 100 years at most. Tribal immigrants would also allow Yaki to know how to understand vocal language, as he could have learned it from them (his people are mute, but do have a written language).

So whilst being a crossbreed of the native lifeforms would require your character to at least be part-fungus, it's much more plausable if some of his blood comes from a migrated tribe instead. Unless you'd just rather him be a straight-up member of the invading nations.

As for art... go for it, if you want! ^^

Alright. Stands to reason that we would probably start with Yaki fleeing his home to a more secluded part of the forest. Our characters can either meet there or on the way there. Given the slaughter of Yaki's people (most likely so the invaders have no resistance as they colonise the place), it might cause a bit of a stand-off. Where they go after that can be down to how things play out.

Also, the deeper underground needs a name... I've been trying to avoid Underdark, so maybe something more like the Black Depths.

Have you got anything you need to work out on your side yet, or any questions? I think I'm ready to start on my side. I'm a PM kinda player, if that's what you'd prefer.

yuss...i love your Rp's hrm i prefer PM Rp's (you know this~) and as for a name maybe "ShadeLynd" like Shade Land but with a bit if a slang accent~? one last question may i adapt Chessie's profile to tell that he comes from this place (i will most definitely and happily credit you as the creator of this place and set a wonderful link to your profile on Chessie's things i just love the idea of this if you are ok with it...i will be forever in your debt with a smile~!)

Sure, sounds fine. On further thought, I figure the underground area might be known by multiple names by different civilisations down there. So really, you can call it what you want.

I'm fine with you using this place in your profile (I have no issues with any of my settings being used so long as permission is asked for first). I'm a bit iffy when it comes to my own characters being used (as I don't tend to tie my characters to specific backgrounds in order to keep them open to all RPs, so I get a bit meh about them getting tied to other characters' backgrounds), but you're fine to use the setting itself.

Actually, something has come to mind that I need to discuss... I take it Sari'na would be a surface dweller... would he more likely be exploring the cave networks or passing by one of the entrances?
