When you're roleplaying, how do you determine the overall plot and its outcome? Is there a specific structure they follow or is there some other factor that play a role in the plot?
For me, I generally have a basic idea of the plot and basic idea of the outcome, but the overall storyline of the RP is often determined by the interactions between the characters.

A lot of different things factor into plot, at least in my experience. There is the setting you are rping in, such as the medium you are using to rp and if there is a certain expected time frame such as what you might encounter on furcadia.
Personally, I begin with an idea for a story then take into consideration the character(s) my rp partner or partners may be using and try to fashion aspects of the story that would be beneficial to everyone's character. Communication with your rp partner is also very good to find out what they are looking for in the story and so on. So finding that out first is always good and then comes the meat of the story/rp which can be determined by interactions and whatever curve balls are thrown at one another or by the DM.
This is just something I use for my own personal tastes

When it comes to freeform, I've found you can rarely go wrong with a little OOC negotiation, something like, "What kind of scenes do you want to see, or what would you think would be cool?" Then you can kind of set things up to head in that direction.
When it comes to RPGs, like Dungeons & Dragons or the like, it's the GM's prerogative. They have to do most of the work, it's only fair they get to do most of the steering.
Left to my own devices, or when I'm GMing, though, my preference is to put the RP into some kind of initial state - this is the world as it is now, these are who the characters involved are, and these are what everyone's plans and goals are - and then find out how things evolve as everything starts to interconnect.
