He watched Simeon go with a growing sense of unease. It wasn't fair for him to wish her to stay -- it wasn't fair for him to wish that on anyone. It was too dangerous here, but he was glad she could have something to take home with her. The memories of their encounter would stick firmly in his mind and be a reassurance to him in the darkest of times.

Wilson gazed into the Florid Postern as it appeared to absorb her, its swirling depths lighting the way back to where ever she had come from. He wondered if perhaps someday he'd be able to take those final, confident steps and never look back. It's a good thing that Simeon got to experience the Constant, however brief, for the captivating uncharted realm that it was. The intrigue never left her cunning eyes -- she was not yet tainted by the unkindness of the world, and that also reassured him.

The young scientist continued to observe the humming gateway in thought. He wondered if any other brave soul would dare set foot into the Constant and claim their prize from his flimsy ol' table of wares. It was then Wilson P. Higgsbury, with a familiar realization setting in, felt truly alone once more.

The Florid Postern gave a sputter, pure energy emitting from the gateway's core in sparks of eerie luminescence. The vines coiled and uncoiled about the columns with fevered movements as though they were somehow connected to the swirling vortex that sang its high-pitched thrum.

It was time, Wilson mused. The season has passed and They were closing the portal. Thank goodness not a single one of his visitors fit the look the Constant was going for. At least, that was his hope.

With one more fierce crackle of pure and unexplained magic, the Florid Postern sealed itself what felt like for good. Wilson watched with a sort of sad indifference. He knew there would be other opportunities, but would they be so fortunate? More importantly, why would the Constant permit others to visit a place that could become their everlasting torment?

These and other questions like it mulled about in the scientist's head, his gaze still fixed upon the Postern which now sat innocently looking very much like that of a humble archway.

There will be other chances, he told himself. And when I get out of here, I will warn everyone. Everyone. And the Constant will starve itself into oblivion.

"For now though," he finally uttered aloud. "It's time to prepare for the Winter's Feast!"
