So I was trying to edit this group I'm making and fir some reason the picture I used for my banner doesn't go across the screen like other groups, is that normal, do I need to to use a different photo?

It appears this is the mentioned group. The image is indeed too small. You will need an image that is at least 960px by 250px large. If it's smaller than that, it will never stretch the way other group banners do.
