Sometimes it can be a real pain in the rear to fit in all the pertinent details in a topic with the character limit, especially when making an rp wanted ad. Made even more annoying with the excessively long boxes we are given to input said topics that we can only actually use about 40% of.
Seconding this! ⬆️
I just sent myself a PM with a topic that was longer than the text box, so I don't know if the character limit is a problem there - but it's definitely true that it's a bit annoying to be presented with the same, tantalizingly long text box when creating a forum topic, and then not being able to utilize it.
In a similar vein - character spaces in the titles for threads in the RP forums are also often used for "metadeta".
At least some space in topic titles is often taken up by user tags like (open) or (private 1x1); would it be a solution to have a checkbox, similar to what exists in the LFRP forum? I don't think a ton of tags would be needed, really just open/closed and 1x1/group - and then have that info show up as icons off to the lefthand side. It already does in the case of (open)/[open], but only if users input exactly that in their thread, which means there are a whole bunch of them (threads) floating around with tags like (everyone welcome) or (open!) that do not get the benefit of that little at-a-glance icon.
I think that the fact that even adding (open) to a topic title does create an icon is super neat and incredibly useful, but I also think prompting topic starters with those two toggles at the very beginning would result in more consistent tags, and free up space for more descriptive titles.

I would happily accept tags instead, just anything to give us ways to fit more info. I'm not trying to write a book here, just include stuff I think would be good for the topic. We have these big text boxes, but we can't even use a big chuck of it which doesn't feel good.
Some tags I would like are for pairings. Like looking for m for mxf or f for mxf, or a tag for fantasy, or sci-fi.

This would be super nice. @v@ I don't think they need to be MUCH longer, and being able to just have open and closed be a checkbox would probably solve most people's limit issues. Given how many things end up with __LF__ or __x__ I could see having dropdowns for that, too, but that's a lot less central than open/closed, or just making things a li'l longer if that doesn't lead to weird technical complications around how names are stored or something.
