Hey-o! I am really trying to avoid using any sort of reference pictures(a.k.a pinterest, AI, google, ect.), but I'm not really sure where I could find a simple enough character creator to picture my characters well enough. I want to be able to incorporate some pictures for what my character looks like. I do have the Sims 4 but I'm not sure if that's the way I want to go. I'm currently trying out VRoid, but I don't know if an anime style is what I'm looking for. I'm also not really a digital artist, so I don't think I'd be happy with just a drawing.
I don't have a lot of spare cash laying around, either, so something cheap would be super great, if not free. I'm not even sure if there's anything like what I'm looking for... but alas I'm here at the forums! Any suggestions? Tips? Advice? Should I just... keep using reference pictures?

Well, there are a lot of dollmakers around, as well as art bases that can be gotten cheap or free and colored in.
For dollmakers, Picrew seems to currently be the most popular collection, but I think places like Doll Divine might still exist and be at least partly functional.
I've used Hero Machine in the past, and their site explains how to get a version working again (it used Flash), and I think I saw an announcement that some version of it had finally been updated to work online again? Hero Machine has a pretty impressive library of parts and a lot of flexibility in their use, but it can start running a little janky if you've got enough going on.
Some might also consider tools like Hero Forge to be a dollmaker, and one of their more recent updates includes a setting to put the model into more realistic human proportions instead of the kinda cartoon mini proportions.
Daz 3D is a 3d program that can be gotten free, and premade resources can be obtained for it for free or varying prices too, so that could also be an option.
A number of video games also come with character creation tools. Offhand, I recall that Black Desert does, as do at least some of the SoulCalibur games, and I think one of the MortalKombat games.
