Magickan report: Malimorian Legend #07

Many chapels on the western side of Malimore have worship alters for not just their typical god of love, S'tyel-viva, but also for another god of love, Val'trylan. Many leaders of these places of worship have contradicting stories of why there are two gods of love and what is the difference for offering to one over the other. Some answered that one was of romantic affection, while the other was more for fertility. Others told us that they are for male love and female love. Another told us that it was for the strength of two blessings. We inquired about the legends around Val'trylan, but we were unable to get an answer until we reached the large western town of Ty'r. We have translated this from a holy text as such:

"Val'trylan was a rabbit man from Ma'doba (a Malimorian term for the area between Malimore and Magicka, which is currently controlled by Magicka) who was in love with a prince of the Malimorian royal family. And so, he travelled to the capital and began trying to snatch as many looks at the prince as he could. He was caught by the prince one day and confronted, and so confessed his love to the prince. The prince was disgusted by this affection, and so ordered him to be tortured and killed. Once Val'trylan's soul reach the abyss, he pleaded to Maim that his death was unjust. Maim allowed his spirit to visit a man in Ma'doba in a dream, where Val'trylan commanded him to build an altar in his name dedicated to same-sex love, and so he did."

Val'trylan is a piece of evidence among many others that much of western Malimore's history and faith is at least partially inspired by eastern Magicka's, where homosexuality was common and legal during the time it's estimated this piece of writing was created. However, it also shows many of Malimore's different values in comparison with its neighboring nations, as shown by the stalking of the prince by Val'trylan, as stalking someone you love is not considered something bad in Malimore's society. However, in recent years, it seems the story has mostly become lost upon its modern worshipers. We have found some evidence of cults dedicated to Val'tyran made up of homosexual people who are trying to hide their relationships from the current Malimorian royal family, due to its illegal status. It is unclear if this was simply due to the story's age and the god's rather obscure nature, or if it is a deliberate attempt to be hidden by the Malimorian royal family as with other examples of Malimore hiding and/or destroying homosexual art and history.
