Even though Connor was following the two boys on foot, his familiarity with the area and the fact that the dup were graciously keeping their pace slow, he had no trouble keeping up. Endurance is something he possessed in spades, not to mention he was being accompanied by a four-legged ball of energy who could probably keep going for hours without even slowing down.
They crossed the nearby blocks at a pace that told Connor the two had probably already done some scouting around the area and chalked up most of the obvious buildings as not worth stopping for. He could see Murdoch running ahead a few yards and then circling back every so often, nose low to the ground, tail swaying with the simple excitement of being outside and dashing around freely. Not for the first time, the canine's infectious zeal and cheery demeanour made Connor wish he was a dog himself - it'd be much more preferable than dealing with the bullshit the world's thrown at them. As the thought crossed his mind, he was also presented with a brief unwelcome memory of the state he'd found Murdoch in . '…Maybe not'.
The group'd covered maybe a couple of miles. Connor wasn’t going to take the lead and was happy to follow the two kids on the bike. They seemed to have some set destinations in mind and even though sceptic of their optimism of being able to find anything in this entire locality that had mostly been pretty much scraped clean of anything remotely usable to humans, he wasn’t able to ruin their day by casting doubts on their venture. Connor knew only too well that despair killed people just as easily as Freakers. He wasn’t going to berate them for chasing a bag of fertilizers over a can of beans. At least the former meant they were still thinking about tomorrow…of there being a tomorrow. Connor had no idea if that made their naiver or stronger than him. Either way, he was happy to be a tag-along for now since the two clearly had a destination in mind. His own needs could take a back-seat if that'd allow these two to find their own.
