Welcome to the Fourth of July Parade!
Please read everything carefully before posting:
It's the start of summer and the city is kicking off its annual July Fourth Parade. Several blocks in the down town area have been closed off with barricades for the parade route. The streets are lined with excited spectators, the scent of popcorn and funnel cake fills the warm air, and marching bands echo between the buildings. It is daytime, just before lunch and the weather is pleasant.
Although this roleplay is set in the modern world in a typical, generic US town, it is available to any kind of character and any age writer of any skill level. If you are using a fantasy or sci-fi character you can still participate. However, please adapt it to fit into a real-world/slice of life setting since magic, fantasy races and sci-fi elements don't fit the real-world theme.
Characters such as aliens, robots, orcs or animal-people could be wearing costumes or makeup for example. Maybe there could be a group of furries on a float or walking together in the parade if your character is anamorphic. Stormtroopers and Klingons could be from the town's cosplay club or maybe your wizard character is on a float for the local comic book shop promoting their weekly D&D night. (Feel free to PM other players to plan and collaborate!)
Here are some examples of how you can participate:
-Your character is on a float throwing candy and waving to the crowd.
-You are a member of a local marching band as a musician, flag twirler or cheerleader marching between floats.
-Riding your horse, motorcycle or driving your uncle's antique car decorated for the occasion.
-Military color guard such as a high school ROTC program, National Guard or other military unit carrying the flags at the front of the parade.
-First responder leading the parade in a rescue vehicle like a firetruck or police car.
-A performer such as a clown or costume character (good option for furries or non-human characters) walking along beside the parade entertaining the crowd.
-A street vendor selling food and drinks with a push cart going up and down the walkway or food truck set up in a nearby parking lot along the parade route.
-A spectator watching the parade from the sidelines just taking it all in.
If you choose to create a float, here are some guidelines:
Provide the theme for your float
A vivid visual description of the float’s appearance (colors, materials, decorations, moving parts, etc.)
Any performers or characters riding or walking alongside it
The music or sounds that accompany your float
Who is sponsoring the float? Examples: little league sport team, scout troop, a local business, A private club or organization (The Shriners, a local VFW post, 4H Club, a fraternity or sorority, your neighborhood HOA)- just think of anything that would be reasonable or likely at a small town parade!
Write in a way that helps readers clearly picture your float in motion going down a sunny American main street.
OOC stuff:
I've tried to make this prompt as open and inclusive as possible. However you choose to participate, keep in mind you are watching or participating in a parade that takes place in the real modern world in a small US town kicking off the start of summer. You should help to contribute to the overall vibe and try to stay within the boundaries of this theme. Please- no violence and keep it friendly for all ages including language.
Leave politics, protests, fights, disasters, disruptions, etc. out. If it's polarizing or triggering then it isn't welcome here.
Other notes and guidelines:
1. Please stay in-character. OOC posts are disruptive, particularly if they turn into a conversation. If you must post OOC for some reason, please keep it brief and add it to the bottom of your IC post and make sure it is clearly labeled as such-- perhaps a reminder of the theme of your float if someone joins in and misses some of the details. If you have questions or there are issues requiring a more involved conversation, please send a DM instead. If you want to collaborate with others, reach out to them via DM. Feel free to invite your writing partners from your regular RPs!
2. There is no 'turn order' in posting (no need to wait for someone else to post again. It never fails someone disappears completely or waits a week to respond again and grinds everything to a halt). We don't have to keep track of where in line your float or group is in the parade. You may write a single one-shot post or post as many times as you like and use multiple characters who are involved in different ways. There is no limit to the number of characters, floats or how you can join in.
3. There is no "too late to join". If the event has been going awhile, just assume you were present when the parade started and just jump in as if you've been there the whole time.
4. There are no judges. This isn't a contest. The floats and performers are not competing for a prize.
5.You don't need to ask permission to join. Just write your post following the above guidelines and jump in.
You may be asked to edit your post if you don't follow the above guidelines. Above all, have fun! This thread will run the duration of the Summer Soiree event and start to wrap up when the event comes to an end.
OOC: I am currently out of town until Tues, June 23. Responses may be slow the first few days until I return so please be patient.

Preparing to start...
The barricades were all in place blocking off the streets for the parade route. The sidewalks were beginning to fill with bystanders staking out their spots. Many had lawn chairs and blankets to sit on. Vendors were starting to open their stands and food trucks.
A few blocks away, the parade itself was staging along the streets just off the main route. Performers and float riders were looking for their spots in line as final preparations and finishing touches were applied.
Near the front, Adam Evans, a prominent local business man whose semiconductor company was the presenting sponsor made his way toward the vintage convertible sportscar he'd be riding in as grand marshal. He would be riding just behind the police car and color guard leading the way.
((OOC: Your initial post should cover your character's arrival. The first few days the parade will be setting up. We'll advance things and have the parade actually start moving once initial posters write their arrival posts as spectators and participants take their places. Watch Adam's character for cues as the event progresses toward its conclusion. Monday will probably be when the parade starts moving.))
