When I go into the Connect+ menu, it has "Optional public note" with a text box next to it. Can someone please explain what they mean by this? Sorry I'm not that clever 
It means you can add an optional public note about the relationship between the two characters that will be displayed in the connection widget, should you choose to have one on your character's profile. 
My character Sinnice has this at the bottom of her page - the text accompanying the two guys is that note.
You can edit this note in the Friends settings of your character at any time.
