What's the gist?
One of many worldwide anarchist counter-revolutionary communities, #metaclaw's center of influence lies in Johannesburg, South Africa. Here it is obvious just how far society has come; man and machine have come together gracefully, inspiring optimism about the future. But conflict remains over how best to keep up the smooth sailing.
Where does my character come in?
#metaclaw is notorious for orchestrating very visible cybercrimes, including power outages, infrastructure network interruptions, and broadcast hijacking. Be they insiders or authorities or victims, characters are in one way or another invested in the future of this community, and will go to great lengths to either protect it or to defeat it.
What's the background?
At the turn of the 22nd century, singularity has finally begun to break down society. Where conservative deregulation had once been an idyllic pursuit, technological rampancy has transcended society, leaving mankind in the wake. Civil unrest pervades day-to-day living, and while life goes on for most, many are engaged in an underground revolution in an attempt to maintain humanity's grip on scientific achievement. Corporations actively participate in this revolution, hoping to ensure the status quo survives the budding era. And while government interests align with self-preservation, ideologies die hard, and laws die harder; so the world holds its breath.
But technology isn't the enemy — only a catalyst for a political dialogue that had been delayed for far too long — as it has raised the standard of living despite society's trial. While virtualization has increased the difficulty of countering cybercrimes, it has also provided an avenue for living beyond the limitations of the flesh, effectively moving the after-life to the internet for those who desire it; cybernetics have revolutionized prosthetics and facilitated the integration of security, social, and secretarial fields into the bustling future. The world truly is a better place; it's only a matter of ensuring it stays that way.
On very, very, rare occasions there may be unexplained, POSSIBLY supernatural events. Minor "environmental" magic. Perhaps implies the existence of a deity or supernatural entity. Or perhaps it's just tricks?
