Is anyone a fan of Berserk?
Be it the manga, anime and movies, and games?
Berserk in general?
A new berserk anime should be here in or around July with a return of chapters coming as well. Pretty exciting.
I've heard about it, but I've never watched it. Is it any good?

The anime is okay, very 90s, only 25 episodes. It only goes into bout the 13th volume of the manga (it goes on and beautifully.)

The movies go to the same part and just a lil after. I like them more than the anime.

The manga is what you need, you will love it more than anything or hate it with a seething passion.

But in July new chapters come and the new anime starts, it starts after where the movies and original anime ended.
I shall try the manga then :D

Ever get around to it? C:

....I thought I replied in may.
Berserk is my all time favorite anime ^^ I actually did my senior research project on Berserk in university ^^

That's amazing! I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions on it!

Hmm, Berserk is something I hold dear to my heart. The manga is fantastic. So much line work and time put into it. Each page is a masterpiece. It is truly unfortunate Miura cannot publish chapters very often because I love looking at his work.

The 90's anime was fantastic. This is what got me interested in berserk in the first place. Yes it has that 90's cheesey anime feel, but it's just so darn good with great character development that I always recommend it before watching the movies.

The three movies... Well. You know what, each movie got better and better. I feel like they were rushed and because of that, there was no emotional attachment to anyone that wasn't Guts, Casca or Griffith. When the eclipse happened, I cried when [SPOILERS] Pippin and judeau and even gaston died. That entire episode was a nightmare. But with the third movie, I didn't feel that because the other characters got no development. It is unfortunate, but I know they had limitations on time and money. But whenever someone new watches the movies, they don't truly get to know the characters. They are literally just side characters instead of something more.

The newest anime... I am mostly disappointed in it. But I'm not the person that goes 3D animation SUCKS IT BLOOOWS. Do i like it? No. But do I understand it? Yes. Money is an issue. And I would much rather have crappy 3d animation than no berserk 2016 at all! I find the biggest problem was the way they filmed each scene. Sometimes it just didn't make sense with the camera angle and you literally had no idea where characters are in relation to each other which causes your brain to not receive it well. Now, the 3d animation could be done a lot better. Jo Jo's bazaar adventure is able to do this, so why can't berserk? My other biggest issue with it, was the amount of time wasted on... I have forgotten her name already, forgive me. The blonde prostitute that's mixed up with the goat head cult. They spend SO MUCH time on her and she is literally not important and incredible frustrating. There was the scene where Guts and Casca finally are back together again after all this time. You'd expect like at least a good 30 seconds of them staring at each other, right? Emotional tension? NOPE lets make it 5 seconds long and move onto something not important. Like the blond girl you all hate!

ah.... I have high hopes for the next season. I hope they learned from what was good and what was bad about this season and move on like they did with the movies. I don't hate anything berserk, but i hope the 2016 anime gets better ^^

What do you think?

Our opinions are actually very similar! I cried during it too! It was so powerful but i heavily agree the third movies eclipse wasn't as good as the first animes.
Indeed it is a shame he can't post more, but the amount of work in each page is just stunning.

I got into berserk through a simple cosmetic connection(a white streak in my hair) a friend pointed out, I started reading and watching and I've been in love with it since. The cheesy 90s feel of it probably one of the best parts, aside from Susumu Hirasawa's godly music, his work on the games scores is amazing as well, he truly captures berserk.
I feel the movies are meant more for those who know berserk(a shame they didn't continue after the eclipse though) but are surprisingly good to make someone want to read the manga.

The newest anime was very very disappointing to me, the fact it didn't do the lost children arc was such a let down(its one of my favorite manga arcs and Jill is one of my favorite characters) I agree the animation is by no means good and sound design as well as the angles just was off, but better than nothing at all, true. I think they were going for something unique but ended up not being able to grasp what they wanted, ended with the horrific amalgamation of camera angles and scenes they got.
I just really didn't like the way they cut up the story, I haven't watched. Them since they came out but wasn't Colette in Jill's place? I just, what the hell, as well as the hounds under the apostle instead of wild dogs and isn't he the apostle Guts kills at Godo's place.
Nina, they could have easily cut her but instead chose an absurd amount of focus on everyone's least favorite prostitute, frustrating I agree.

I too have high hopes, it's never possible for me to hate something from Berserk, like I even enjoy the story of the Sega Dreamcast game, and if this anime doesn't get better, at least we know they will attempt movies or another series again.

Oh! The new game looks beautiful however.
Oh lord how could I forget to mention Susumu Hirasawa. My all time favorite singer ever. I just bought his Ash Crow cd =w=. I was extremely disappointed when I found out he wasn't doing the music anymore, but settled for him doing Aria and Hai Yo. I don't mind Shiro Sagisu, he did an okay job on Bleach and the Berserk music was okay. Some songs were stronger than others naturally, but its no Earth or Gatsu.

I cannot wait for the new game. I will be preordering it when them time comes closer. It looks fantastic. I unfortunately have not been able to play any berserk games -_-
Oh, and I forgot to mention how I hate the way the 2016 anime portrays Casca. I understand she's mindless now, but in the opening, they don't show who she was. They just make her look weak in the opening, giving her huge bishi animu eyes. Like, why not instead show her leading her men, or killing Adon (Whatever his name was). But I feel like in every scene showing Casca, it just portrays her as weak-- which she wasn't. We know that because we watched everything prior, but again, new people don't. I don't even really like Casca that much, but I don't like her being portrayed as someone who needs saving all the time, or a sexual object. But After the eclipse, thats a different story. She can't help herself.

Sorry to cut in here but I can't really see your point on Casca. The new anime is entirely dedicated to Gut's life after the band of the hawk, living in a world of pure death and despair.
There is no literal or even genuine reason for them to portray Casca as anything other than what she is. A mindless childlike figure who needs saving. That's her character and that's the portrayal.

Even if you wanted to extend it a little, anime openings are relative to the story in question. For all we know, it could change if Casca gets healed.

Hmm, let me try to clarify what I meant. For me, in the opening theme, it would have been more powerful to show her in action poses like they did for Guts and Griffith, so that when you see what she has become in the actual anime you can understand how horrible the eclipse had been for Casca. To see a strong character be reduced to a mindless child. I'm not saying the intro is bad, I quite enjoy it. I just feel that it gives new viewers a warped understanding of who Casca is.

Edit But I do get what you are saying. I just personally, would like to see that, it doesn't mean that I am right.
Hmm I do see what you're saying but if they showed Casca's old self, it would confuse people. Keep in mind that the new series hasn't actually explained the eclipse and/or what happened in it. I can imagine a new viewer getting confused by seeing a scene of Casca being some warlord then seeing her being meek and weak in the actual show with no explanation.

She's essentially a different character.

This is true. But I would hope this would lead people to either look up the manga to see what's going on or the older anime. I feel like it's not going to explain what happened because they're assuming we watched the movies. Or at least, that is the impression that I got.

Hm, this took off, because I'm now thinking of Casca...do you think she will be cured? And is that good or will it only make things worse, and how will she react to everything that happened?
Most importantly, what will she think about Guts?(and GRIFFIIIIIIIIIITH!!!!!! too)

Berserk has sorta been in my periphery for many years now. I've watched some of the old anime, and then a newer thing with completely awesome intro music. I really should read the manga. I'm not a big manga fan, but Berserk might be worth it :P

It is most certainly worth it, the art itself is pretty great at first then gets turned up to eleven c:

Hmmm I am torn. Half of me wants to see her healed, the other half doesn't really want her to. I don't know how she will react. She may distance herself from everyone for some time.

As am I, and if she comes back it would alter greatly the whole groups dynamic, personally I actually don't know what I'd prefer.
