Like Science, and construction, Magic in all its forms can be explained in near absolute. this might mean that magic may seem to work different in different environments, which is a potentially confusing element, but rest assured that the absolute nature of magic can be messed around with in 'accurate' ways))

Magic is very common. Magic-tech, grand floating islands, forests that sing, magical creatures may be an every-day occurrence.
Far future, perhaps galactic teleporters and fast terraforming
Combat is expected as part of the storyline but it won't dominate the plot.
