They had been in the air - no, that wasn’t right, on the move- for less than twenty-four hours. Earth was beyond them, a place they would never return to.
It would be approximately 364 more days until they touched down on their new home - Mars. The first real Martians in the year 2026.
To Lifen it was a strange thought, something out of a science-fiction story and a fairytale.
The journey for her was one of letting go. She was divorced with no children, no family. She had nothing left for her on earth and when she had signed up for the program, she had been so unsure she would be picked.
Here she was, though.
She was strapped into the chair, watching the windows. It was blank, empty sky, devoid of everything but far off stars she would never see up close. Mars was closer, but it was still so distant.
Her black-brown eyes darted around the room, picking out what else she could. She was bored.
On an honest-to-god space craft and she was bored! What a laughable thought.
They were packed in with technology like e-readers and tablet computers and all she could think about was taking a stroll around a park.
It may have been a mistake to board, but it was too late now.
She undid the belts keeping her in, “Anyone else hungry? I feel like I didn’t eat all day yesterday.” Which was actually true. It wouldn’t have been becoming of her to throw up on her new roommates.

Aaron was ripped from his daydream by the voice of another. He adjusted his glasses up on his nose, and looked up at the source of the voice. "Oh, I'd love to eat." He smiled, and unbuckled his seat-belt. Pushing away from the chair, he smiled as he floated, doing flips and things in the air. "This is awesome!" He flew around the room a few times before calming down, and smiling at Bao. "Shall we eat, then?"
