In a different universe, magic was everywhere. Most humans possessed at least a little bit of magic and if you possessed enough, you would join a guild as an apprentice. You would eventually become a master and have your own apprentice before being qualified to become a guild leader.
Y/C was a talented magician, he became a master at the ripe age of 18. He refused to take on an apprentice. He was boastful, full of himself, and completely devoted to his study of magic. He was socially awkward as well, coming off as stand offish so friends weren’t really in the picture for him. He was also shit at taking care of himself.
7 years later, he longed to be a guild master but he was unable to teach an apprentice. He was naturally talented in magic and so he never had to really try. He was impatient and many of his apprentices quit. Nobody ever really tried to understand him so he gave up on understanding others.
His heart grew black with hatred, jealousy, and loneliness. He tried using dark magic to secure his place among the Guild Leaders and failed.
As punishment, he was banished from his world and sent to ours. They cursed his heart and his body, until he learned to care for someone other than himself and his powers then he will never return home or unless he steals the magic of the “child with fire in her hair and the ocean in her eyes” thus proving his devotion to magic. Voiding a magician of their magic is like taking away their life energy, it would leave the child an empty shell.
He is forced to live in a magicless world where his powers are severely dampened with technology he doesn’t understand. For two years, he roamed until he came upon a city. We know it as Detroit where he discovers a girl with magical abilities, an 11 year old girl with flaming red hair and sea colored eyes. She is my character.
He realizes that he has to teach her to unlock her full magical ability before he take it which means he has to train her in magic. The girl is an orphan and an heiress who lives alone on her family’s estate except for a few servants which means nobody will be looking for her. He convinces the girl let him stay with her but the task is harder than he thought.The girl is relentless and bounding in energy, not to mention annoyingly bubbly. The girl is observant though, she notices how he seems to lack the basic skills to care for himself and how painfully awkward he is.
Will the magician achieve his goal or will he be unable to follow through once he befriends the girl?

Magic is rare, but not unheard of. Mundane characters may or may not believe in it. Magical characters may form small and exclusive pockets for study, protection, etc.
