Dull thuds reverberates through the ship from somewhere below as alarms blare and speakers through out the ship warn of explosions and decompression in engineering plus two other lower decks along with bulkhead and birdlime dispensers failing. The old research ship was suffering a catastrophic hull failure, and outside normal travel lanes...

Noin had been woken up by the first of the thuds. Hearing the broadcast from the ships speakers she heads to each of her small team's rooms, telling them to hurry up and get to the cryo tubes on the next deck up. She knew she looked odd running around as she was, bare footed and in sleep shorts, tank top and lab coat, the last something of pure habit. Rushing everyone up the inter deck ladders a loud bang followed by the screech of tortured metal is heard.

A distress call is heard over the speakers, having been left on during everything "This is the Research vessel Albion! We have suffered catastrophic hull failure. Position is..." the woman sending the signal would continue to repeat this until the end.

Noin's team was just getting in their. She was the last one in even though her tube was first in line. Quickly being frozen her pod ejected from the ship to be recovered later if the ship was ok...or by recovery ships if it didn't. After her tube was though the ship lost all power, then was ripped apart by several internal explosions caused by the failing of critical systems and fire.

In the aftermath of the incident, at the edge of the debris cloud, several signal beacons goes off along with several strobe lights to mark the objects positions in space among the wreckage of the ship. The beacons broadcast on all channels a recording of the distress call repeatedly.

A few light years away, the UCS Constantine was patroling the Antrea system. On her bridge, sitting in his command chair was Captain Augustus Terminus, who was looking through crew reports and such things. He wore the standard uniform of the Space Fleet of the United Coalition of Planets, dark gray pants and a dark gray jacket with the shoulders colored to signify his department aboard the ship. In Terminus' case, his was green, indicating his rank of captain. He was reading a report from the Cheif Engineer who caught two Ensigns performing activities that ought stay with the bedroom, not near the sigularity core of a starship when he was interupted by his communication officer.

"Sir..." Came the hestitant voice. Lieutenant Ayerye was a Vugan, a species that was considered one of the most beautiful and diplomatic in the galaxy.

"Yes Lieutenant?" Terminus asked, not looking up form the report.

"I'm detecting a distress signal."

This piqued the Captain's interest, and he looked up form the report of a crewman who had been found trying to hack his friend's computer. "Play it."

"Yes sir." The officer quickly pressed the key on the console's touchscreen and the distress call blared form the speakers.

"This is the Research vessel Albion! We have suffered catastrophic hull failure. Position is..."

The Captain listened for a second time before reacting. "Helm." The ensign manning the ship's helm jumped. He was Human and fresh from the Academy, still nervous from being on the bridge. "Y-yes sir?"

"Take us to the coordinates specified by the distress call."

"Yes sir."

The ships engines brightened up, illuminating the white, blue, and black hull of the starship before it dissappearing in a flash of light, having gone to warp only to reappear a minute later near the life pods.

"Sir, detecting beacons along with lifepods." The sensors officer reported

"Send a shuttle to recover them. Have a medical team report to the hanger bay." Terminus ordered.

"Aye sir."

The ten or cryopod's strope blinked away inside the debris field, somewhat scattered, but one was much farther from the rest, slightly outside of the field proper. A chunk of the ships forward superstructure was still mostly in together, twisted and gutted piece but still together since it had been farthest from the chains of explosions that had doomed the ship.

Closer to the clustered pods it was clear that any survivor in them might be severely hurt or dead, one clearly with a piece of debris pieced through it

A pair of shuttles flew out of the ship's hanger bay, cruising towards the lifepods. Their tractor beams activated and the smallcraft began moving the pods towards the hanger bay's opening, where more trator beams brought in the pods, setting them gently on the deck. Within a few minutes, the shuttles had collected all of the lifepods that contained a lifeform.

Terminus watched the shuttles progress through the ship's veiwscreen. When the last pod was brought into the hanger, he tore his gaze away and looked at the ship's operations officer. "Report."

"Engineering teams are working on opening pods that's control were damaged in the explosion, Medical staff report that a high number of the survivors are in critical condition. They are transporting the most injured to sickbay."

The starship captain turned his attention to Lieutenant Ayerye. "What can sensors pick up about the explosion? Was it the result of an attack?"

The Vugan checked her reading before reporting. "Inconclusive, the remaining superstructure is too heavily damaged for sensors to pick up any possible residue from weapons fire. I could perform a structural and dispersion analysis, but it will take many hours."

Terminus nodded. "Get on it. If anything worth noting happens, contact me. I'll be down in the hanger." The captain steeped into the lift located on the side of the bridge and the doors hissed shut before it descended down into the bowels of the ship towards the hanger bay.
