Your Character believes strongly that merfolk aren't real, and no one can change their mind. One night, while saltwater fishing, they reel in what appears to be a person. They brush the strange encounter off and bring him home, putting him in the backseat of their vehicle. When they get home, they really get a good look at him, seeing his fins and tail, and realizing this boy is not human. He's merfolk. It's now their job to protect him, and people really don't seem to like him...
