Hello RPers!

I’m looking to run an RP with another person or small group.

Think Avatar The Last Airbender with a splash of Lord of the Rings and Badlands in a steampunk Asian fantasy setting.

The idea is that Kung Fu, and all things magical, are being purged from the world, making way for a steampunk nation. We are tasked with protecting the Dragon of Shimmering Fates from falling into the hands of Prime Minister Lei and his Republic of Daozen.

We’d be playing as masters of Kung Fu with serious power thresholds, as we’ll be going up against armies equipped with steampunk/gunpowder/magic-absorbing technology, all while trying to get the Dragon to its Immortal Den across the other side of the world. Expect the scale of intensity to be ridiculous, somewhere between DBZ and Fullmetal Alchemist if that even makes sense.

All standard fantasy races are welcome, as well as any custom ones you have in mind - within reason. They can’t be aliens from outer space.

I’m looking for experienced RPers that can do 2-3 paragraph posts (not always required) with a well-thought out character, mainly looking to have fun in this whacky genre I’ve stitched together.

This is currently a WIP and will take time before it’s officially ready, but I figured I should get a thread going for anyone that would be interested in something like this. Please get at me through PM for more info!

Details: Freeform, paragraphs required, long-term RP partner preferred.

If I were allowed to use my full vocabulary, I would couple an insane swear word with yeah. I'm onboard and will create a character as soon as I'm done with my chores.

Still looking for a couple more people. Here's an update on the lore.

The Land of Shimmering Fates

The land of Shimmering Fates is dying.

A world once embedded in ancient tradition makes way for the roaring age of industrial steam-powered machinery.

Prime Minister Lei has ousted the Emperor's control over the land, establishing the Republic of Daozen in its stead. His army of war machines scour the territories, destroying magical artifacts and scrolls of the past. Their numbers are vast and overwhelming, but not everyone will go quietly into the night...

The Golden Masters of The Iron Gate represent the Elite Schools of Martial Combat, the last bastion of hope against the unrelenting machine hellbent on erasing the past. The Annual Battle Tournament at Secret Cove is underway. It is the perfect opportunity for them to recruit the best in order to take on the gargantuan task of reclaiming their dying culture.

These Masters stand firm, not just as guardians of tradition, but as saviors of a world unknowingly blind to the real underlying threat at hand. Should Prime Minister Lei succeed at ridding all of the magical relics in the land, then there will be far more worse things to worry about than mortal tyrants....

The Lore:

The Halberd Dynasty: Established at the end of The Dueling Banners Era 100 years ago. Lion General Zetram had rallied the lesser clans to decimate the remainder of his opposition to the throne. His elven blood ensured a long and prosperous rule. Over a span of one hundred years, he dedicated himself to Daozen wholeheartedly. And then, without warning... Prime Minister Lei swooped in to claim ownership.

The Republic of Daozen: Their rise into power was carefully planned. Originally, the key founders were members of Emperor Zetram's counsel - some had been by his side since the beginning of his reign. The execution of Venerable Boar was the catalyst that set their wheels into motion. Venerable Boar was a beloved Monk from the Temple of the Smiling Fist. Known for his peaceful teachings of the Shimmering Fate, Venerable Monk was the voice of the people. The reason behind the Emperor's decision to execute him remains unclear. It was done swiftly and publicly for everyone to witness. This, among several other uncharacteristically cruel incidents enforced by the Emperor, propelled Prime Minister Lei and his followers to gain the trust from the people. Three years since the death of Venerable Boar, Lei launched his campaign. Backed by an army of thousands, the Republic struck quickly, seizing all key locations starting with The Halberd Jewel. The Emperor and his family was taken prisoner inside their quarters allowing Prime Minister Lei to take charge of Daozen. The move was celebrated by everyone who was tired of the Emperor's tyrannical antics. Little did they know that in his place was a far more venomous snake.

Magic: It is said that inner chi is guided by Watching Mother's spindle. Threading one's energy with the world can unlock near limitless potential. That is the general foundation for all magic users. Various schools incorporate martial arts with this phenomena, often serving as the backbone of their philosophy. Control of the elements, heightened abilities, healing, and even summoning the undead are some of the more common practices. Acquiring raw magic (without guidance) is rarely contained. Those who usually have a sense for such things are urged to hone their gifts at one of the many schools offered in Daozen.

Schools: The practice of honing martial combat and magic has existed since the Era of Dueling Banners. For hundreds of years, schools have been competing for supremacy, desperately seeking the Emperor's recognition as the best in the world. There are four schools that have established themselves as the elite: The Shallow Step (power through speed), The Grieving Spider (power through deception), The Smiling Fist (power through might), and The Seeking Sword (power through precision). They are lead by a collective known as The Golden Masters of The Iron Gate. These powerful elders guide their students according to the tenets of their practice, keeping them on their toes by scheduling friendly tournaments year round. Not all competition is friendly. Under this umbrella of The Four is a branch of many different schools all jockeying to be in the limelight. Some have come close, but the resiliency of The Four have always outlasted the competition.

Technology: Steam-powered machinery isn't a new concept for Daozen. Steam-engines power airships, steamboats, mills and innovative farming tools. Many of the major cities like the Floating Leaf and the Lantern Fortress adopt some form of steam-driven technology into their society. Since the Republic of Daozen's takeover 10 years ago, Prime Minister Lei has established industrial factories in the north, pooling ores and metals from the Grand Tortoise Mines to pump out his war machines.

The Halberd Jewel: The Emperor's Fortress City currently seized by the Republic of Daozen. Known for its high walls carved directly out of stone from the mountainside it is founded on.

City of the Lantern Fortress: A massive trade port city surrounds an impregnable, moated fortress. It shines like a beacon at night with an impressive display of over 10,000 lanterns that are almost always lit. The Lantern Fortress is also called the Gem of Daozen, sparkling with festive events and tourist attractions held year round.

Lotus Port: This port town is the main checkpoint for all sea vessels. There is a large influx of foreigners here. Whether or not it correlates to the rising crime rate in the area remains to be seen, but the locals like to think so.

Scorpion Bay: With a name like that, you'd think it would be a hotbed for pirates and criminals. While it isn't necessarily a spawning ground for that sort, they make it a point to let themselves be known. Even still, its stunning isle of beach islands are full of wonderful attractions and easygoing people. Scorpion Bay is famous for its annual sail boat race: The Thirsty Fish Trail.

Floating Leaf City: A vast network of large scale sea vessels have been retrofitted as the foundation for this unique location. Where the City of the Lantern Fortress is known as the Gem of Daozen, The Floating Leaf City is known as the Pearl of the People. There are great walls of coral reefs nearby that take up a big portion of the underwater surface area.

Valley of the Beggar's Song: A land for those who own nothing. It is a sea of makeshift shanty towns, cursed with non-fertile land and polluted water. Should you find yourself stuck in these dead lands, pray the Watching Mother guides you away from its twisted vice grip. This is a true haven for the detestable, run by whichever raiding party is currently the strongest. These parts are known for illegal pit fights.

More to be added...

The Rundown:

-Steampunk in a Wuxia-type setting
-Magic and firearms will be present in this RP
-To keep things contained, we'll be on the side of The Golden Masters.
-Fantasy races will be allowed.

NPCs

The Golden Masters

Master of The Shallow Step: Talia Iyo
4631483919_ef0bc725cc.jpg
Talia Iyo is guided by the wind mothers of her elven religion. She brings elegance and grace to even the most cumbersome of students. She has unwavering patience, but does not baby her students. Talia is most famous for defeating Vetrus in an unsanctioned fight inside the mountains of the Grand Tortoise mines. She playfully holds this win over the master, who despises her very much for doing so.

Some say she is the most powerful of the four as she has yet to fully reveal her true potential. Many martial artists have tried to ask her hand in marriage through combat, which may explain why she has the record for most wins. Talia loves sailing. She is the current champion of the Thirsty Fish Trail boat race. Many believe she is cheating by using her martial abilities (which is strictly forbidden) but no one is brave enough to openly accuse her.

Master of The Grieving Spider: Vetrus
Elf.jpg
The Grieving Spider itself is known as the assassin's style, using the foundation of trickery as its most important principle. Such a style requires an intelligence and understanding for reading other fighting techniques, while accepting the limited identity of one's self. Vetrus is known for thoroughly outclassing The Jolly Tusk, a herculean mammoth man who was highly favored to beat him.

You can never be sure of Master Vetrus' intentions as he is almost always plotting and scheming to test his students and those in his social circles. Painting is his favorite hobby. Several of his pieces are hung in the Emperor's hall and Vetrus makes it a point to give a painting to the other three masters every year for their birthdays. While the gesture may seem kind, almost all of the paintings he gifts them are fictional depictions of him standing over their defeated bodies in triumph.

Master of The Smiling Fist: Weretrigo Nightoak
night_elf___monk_by_douglasdraco-d4ux4xe.jpg
Nightoak is a towering Elk Manbeast with immeasurable strength. He is most famous for sinking an island from the scorpion bay with a single punch. Master Vetrus and Gan Fang make it a habit to inform everyone that "the island wasn't necessarily huge..." and was "On its last leg anyway, what with the high tide coming in." Out of the four, Nightoak is the most laid back. He has a happy go lucky demeanor that rarely sways, even when Vetrus tests his patience. Nightoak loves singing and gardening. He is known to have one of the most powerfully operatic voices in the land, and his gardens at the Smiling Fist temple are tourist attractions.

Master of The Seeking Sword: Gan Fang
honorable_by_cristi_b-d40upg4.jpg
The Orc swordmaster is an old war dog. Even though he is by far the most strictest disciplinarian compared to the other Golden Masters, he produces great results. Most of his understudies move on to become grandmasters. However, because of the difficult curriculum, his school is also known for having the highest dropout rate.

Earn his respect and you have the loyalty of a supremely wise legend. Earn his distaste, and you will know what true terror is really like. Gan Fang is mostly known for ending a famous duel in one move. Keep in mind that he was facing six opponents. Masters Vetrus and Nightoak however refute that "It was a complete mismatch between a seasoned master and six intermediate students." Gan Fang likes to go fishing and is the undisputed fishing champion in Floating Leaf City.

Emperor ZetramSamuraiElf.jpg
The sole ruler of unified Daozen for over 100 years. His generosity and kindhearted wisdom won the hearts of his people, but that was long ago. For reasons unknown, the peaceful Emperor became a dark and brooding tyrant. Taxes became steeper and regularly enforced, as punishment for petty crimes grew from tolerable to severe. The execution of Venerable Boar of The Smiling Fist was the straw that broke the camel's back. Members of his counsel staged a coo, ousting him from the throne and proclaimed themselves as the Voice of Daozen. Emperor Zetram and his family are prisoners in a sealed off tower at The Halberd Jewel.

Republic of Daozen

Prime Minister Lei
sample1.jpg
Prime Minister Lei was originally Emperor Zetram's royal ambassador. He oversaw all foreign relations and policies. The formation of the Republic of Daozen was entirely his idea, one that he had been plotting since Emperor Zetram executed Venerable Boar. Lei used his death as a rallying point for the people, gaining their trust as he promised to bring back the prosperity that Daozen once knew. Gaining support from the Emperor's counsel, he coordinated a secret campaign to produce steam-powered war machines, combating the opposition that would surely come after their declaration to power. The change of leadership from the Emperor, to the Republic of Daozen was abrupt, but not without resistance. Loyalists stood their ground, but even with their gifts in martial combat and magic, they didn't stand a chance against the might of the Republic. From The Halberd Jewel, the Republic spread across Daozen and occupied every major city. Prime Minister Lei ensured that it was all a precautionary measure to weed out the rest of the resistance. In truth, he was putting all of his chess pieces in order, waiting for the right moment to carry out his next order of business: ridding Daozen of its old traditions for violent customs. Relics, statues, artifacts, manuscripts and scrolls were purged in the main cities, burning them in massive bonfires as if sending a signal to Daozen that the new age is fast approaching. Prime Minister Lei looks to advance on the School Temples next, waiting or the right opportunity to strike.

Isao The Fox
sample3.jpg
Despite Prime Minister Lei's distaste for the world of martial combat, he understands that he needs powerful martial artists to take on The Golden Masters and their pesky schools. Enter Isao The Fox. The former prodigy of the Grieving Spider turned his back on the world and became Lei's right hand man. His deadly combination of quick gunslinging and quicker hand-to-hand-combat makes him the most dangerous Martial Artist in Lei's stable. Isao The Fox is willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done, even if it means killing innocent people. He leads a group of former martial arts masters turned bounty hunters under the banner of The Heartless Knife. They are equipped with armor and weapons forged from the science of steam-powered machinery, making them incredibly formidable.

Tinkerer Mortrican
sample4.jpg
A foreigner from the Cities of Celeonia and vital asset of the steam-engine industry for the Republic's military. Prime Minister Lei sought out Mortrican many years before the declaration of the Republic. Fortune and fame was not the inventor's pursuit or motivation. The ability to watch his creations in action without repercussions is why he ultimately agreed to back Prime Minister Lei. He now teams up with the enslaved dwarven smiths of The Grand Tortoise Mines, brainstorming new ideas and inventions for Prime Minister Lei and the Republic Military.
