Forums > RP Discussion > Where Does The Time Go?

The heady days of the holidays have passed when I had hours to spend here, and now I'm back in the workaday world. I have good intentions through the workday that I'll get home and sort dinner and then spend a couple hours or so getting things sorted on RPR with my RPs and characters. But I get here and I'm spent, and my brain is a blur when I try and write replies. I have no less than five half-completed RP replies on my computer right now, and I have zero energy to finish even one. Meanwhile, another day passes without word from me to my RP partners. I thought the weekend would get me back on track, but with the exception of a few RPs, I spent most of it in front of the TV binge watching various shows. I didn't have to think, and it felt good. I'm hoping I'll get over this flat spot on my muse motivation and catch the next wave in. Right now I'm just floundering, and I apologize to anyone who is in an RP with me waiting for me to get my act together.

I don't normally do threads like this but everyone is pretty cool on this site, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has this issue come along. Good night.

I get how it feels to have zero energy, and I hope you'll eventually get over it. I'm fine with waiting, because I know you want to make the reply something good. I'm just glad seeing you're still on here, because then I know you haven't abandoned the site, haha.

Take your time, and take care of yourself. :D

Thanks Mia. You’re one of the nearly completed replies I have. :)

If I could have my off time in the morning it would work out better for me. But fear not, I’ll not be one who lines out my account.

I totally understand, friend. It happens more often than you'd think.

I'm more than willing to wait. Like MiaLouise said, take your time and take care of yourself! ;) Your health and happiness is more important. And I have no doubt that whatever you bring to the table, be it immediately or maybe in a stretch of time, it will be great!

Take care of yourself, and hope your day goes well for you!

I've been the same lately. You're definitely not the only one!

Yes! And then isn't it simultaneously the best/worst when you finally do hit 'Send' on that reply you've been working on for two days and your partner sends back a lengthy reply in like 15 minutes? O.o

Good times don't stay around long enough and bad times seem to never end.

Good Times Bad Times.... yes. Remember the good times and forget the bad times to a certain extent. After enough years pass, some of the bad times are remembered somewhat fondly as things that made the person.

Anyway... as far as RP goes, I have a few, and the ones that need the lenghy replies are suffering with me right now. It seems I can't get the story flows going in my head to write out anything that doesn't seem forced. I seem to be able to manage the ones that run a couple short paragraphs per reply, but my multi-para story-building muse has really taken a hit so far in 2019. I know I'll get back on top of this, but I apologize to my co-writers who have been patiently waiting for my contributions to the stories.

Your muse will come roaring back. Throw a few a logs on the fireplace. Enjoy a bottle of wine and a steak. Spend time with a freind you just met.

Oh! I do know a trick to try and get some creative juices flowing, though it seems a bit weird:

Pick a topic. Any topic. It could be about books. Food. Your favorite shirt. An abstract concept. Whatever. Then write. But here's the catch - you only have 100 words. No more, no less. Exactly one hundred words. My journalist friends have told me this. It helps you to think creatively in order to get something down. I'm not saying that inspiration comes immediately after, but it really does help. :)

I know this feeling. Between two jobs that are writing-based and the time needed to de-compress from those jobs, finding the time to RP - or even just to write for myself - is difficult. There are quiet periods, which are excellent, but I can definitely relate to the feeling of floundering.

I work from 9:00 to 6:00 mon-fri and I totally get how you feel!
I'm usually not tired cuz I make sure to get plenty of sleep every day, but there are days when I get home, prepare dinner, sit down and eat while watching a series, take a shower and there goes my day :'D

What helps is writing my replies on my commute during the morning/afternoon.
If you have to drive, you can think on your reply while on the road and hopefully it'll be easier when you have a chance to write.

I hope you feel better soon and don't push yourself! I'm sure your partners will understand

I’m getting better at trying to manage my time. The trouble is with a change of circumstances toward the end of last year, I found myself with very little free time in a day. I now go to work early and the hour I get in the evening just isn’t enough, and weekends tend to be filled with other events.

I tended to overcommit to rp and can seem only to stay up with the shorter post ones anymore. I think it has gotten to a point where I’m going to have to let some of my rp writing partners that I won’t be able to continue. It is a sad reality.
