A sudden ray of sun had invaded the dream, which probably would never carry on... like the last episode of a show with another season coming a year late... The room you’ve woken up in was small, and the walls were plain baige. Near the door, there were a few anime, and movie posters(like Candyman, The Thing, Friday The 13th, etc). The wooden door was creaked open, and so was a window. “Good morning.” A raspy voice purred.

Any gender will work. Male, female, non-binary... anything will work. 
I’m not going to say “nothing sexual,” because if it was sexual...

On very, very, rare occasions there may be unexplained, POSSIBLY supernatural events. Minor "environmental" magic. Perhaps implies the existence of a deity or supernatural entity. Or perhaps it's just tricks?
Modern
Combat is expected as part of the storyline but it won't dominate the plot.
