I'm new to RP, and I know that their basically the same, but OC is typically an art term and I don't have the slightest clue if it's disrespectful to the community or something. If someone knows... help I'm scared.

Original Character (OC) doesn't just pertain to art. It can be used in lots of stuff, or to literally state the obvious. It is your character, and that it is original, there are none others exactly like it. Your character may be a stock vampire, but what makes it different is that it's YOUR character, and it's a character that YOU have made. If I go on further I'ed just be re-iterating the obvious even more. But yea. You get the gist at this point, right? -b

Yeah, in retrospect, this was kind of a stupid question, but I didn't want to delete it because what if it WAS rude for some reason and I ended up causing everyone on the website to hate me, leading to me getting hate on other websites, then eventually so many people hate me that I can't leave the house without being attacked by people that despise me and... reading over this before posting, I sound like a total nutjob, so TLDR I have a really big problem with overanalyzing things so I wanted to be sure.
Well, you joined just in time to see the full scale of how supportive this community is of each other. Epic Week, the site's birthday, starts in the morning. It's likely to be a bit overwhelming, but questions are welcome and encouraged, and guides for how to best get through will be developing through the week. Once you've seen all that, I think you'll have a decent idea what to expect here.
Don't worry, OC is not the worst thing you can call your characters. I often refer to mine as children, my stable, 'this A-hole' etc etc lol
