Change log from tonight's patch!

Posted by Kim on October 6, 2013, 1:00am

Thanks for your patience during tonight's downtime! It was a necessary evil, in the service of a great good.

There will definitely be more big updates like this one before the year is out, but I will try to bunch them together as much as possible to minimize the number of nights you have to go to bed on time because you can't update your character profiles.

But you're probably wondering what was so important that you had to take a break from RPing in the middle of your Saturday night. So, in this update:

Change log

  • All the group setting administrative screens have been completely reorganized. Almost nothing is where it used to be.
    • I've tried to group related options into more intuitive categories, and onto screens where things are more closely related to one another.
    • Many options have been rewritten to be easier to understand.
    • Some options have been broken into many options, for finer control over how your group runs, or in some cases, simply making it easier to understand what it is you're changing.
    • Question mark bubbles (Like this: question.png) have been added liberally in hopes of making what everything does even clearer and easier. Hover your mouse over them to see their hints & tips.
  • Group administrative screens have a new, Wordpress-inspired sidebar designed to make life easier and the many aspects of how groups can be managed simpler to understand at a glance.
  • You can now create completely custom group applications, using any number of short answer questions, long answer questions, checkboxes and plain old instructions.
  • Old group applications converted into the new style apps by putting all your old questions into an "instruction" box and offering a long answer question beneath asking people to write their answers to the above. It is highly recommended that you review your group application and create something more custom.
  • What entities have access to your group has been changed slightly. This is hard to describe, but I'll do my best!
    • You may now only choose to accept applications from players, characters or both. "Invite Only" is no longer part of this decision -- you can choose whether these entities will require invitations in its own option.
    • Accepting any character will allow the player of that character to post as themselves, so that they can talk on OOC forums.
    • Accepting a player no longer auto-accepts all of their characters.
    • BUT, there's a new option that allows you to let your members use any of their characters when posting, so long as they have at least one entity accepted into your group (either one of their characters or their main user account).
    • It is still true that only entities that specifically applied and were accepted will appear in your list of group members. So checking the "Let approved members post as any of their characters" option will not cause a ton of characters to suddenly appear in your member roster.
    • Overall this new option spread seemed easier to intuitively understand what each option actually did in tests. I'm still hungry for more of your feedback, however!
  • Screens for creating & managing group announcements have also been overhauled. They are now more similar to the interface for creating & managing group events.
  • Number of comments on each group announcement is now visible directly from the announcement listings page
  • Group invitations now run on an entirely new system. This new system should eliminate many of the old bugs where some people never received their invitations.
  • It is now possible to view all outstanding invitations.
  • You may withdraw an invitation that you previously sent.
  • Group members with the "Manage members" power are able to withdraw any invitation, whether they sent it themselves or not.
  • You can now purchase single character slots from the power-up store!
  • Added several illustrations around the site.
  • Many bug fixes. Like, a lot.
  • Laid groundwork for more awesomeness in the next update!

The Princess & The Hero Get In On The Group Fun

In honor of groups taking their final steps toward leaving alpha and joining the rest of our features in the land of full support, Darth_Angelus dreamed up a new RPR video starring everyone's favorite faux fairy tale friends.

What sort of group will you start? :)

Aaah that video! I had a laugh! :D

I love the group updates too! I rushed over to have a look, and at first I confused as to where the options were, but now that I've found them, it's so much cleaner and easier to use! I love it :D Great job as always Kim!
