Not sure if this has been suggested already, but I think it might be helpful to have some sort of ping system for received kudos - say, perhaps a notification on the sidebar? It's easy, sometimes, to scroll past the notification on the activity page - especially if a person has left kudos for several people at once. I don't know about other people, but I often miss the little 'and You', down there!
I would love for kudos given to me to be singled out from the activity page, too. Not a sidebar notification, but it's indeed easy to miss when someone's been handing out multiple kudos that you're one of the recipients, so I'd like for that to be a separate activity blurb that stands apart from kudos given to others.
I've no idea if this is a realistic idea, code-wise, but I sure would like it!

Yeah! Not necessarily a sidebar thing, but some kind of individual notification. If it'd be possible to code something like that into the site, I'd sure love it. I just don't want to keep missing it when I receive one! X3
Having the combiner NOT combine kudos given to you sounds logical to me. I will ponder this.
