Alright, I've tried to avoid this for awhile, but I simply cannot ignore this any longer.

As you can see, none of my charecters have pictures. I have countless pictures for my charecters, but here's my problem. No matter what I do, it always says the picture is to big! Am I doing it wrong? Can I not choose these pictures? Are they really just to big?

Someone help me, please!
Im interested in this as well i can never get the pic i wanted cause its to big.

Use an image resizing program. I have an app on my phone (I do everything on it. My pc is dead) It's called reduce photo size.

Great!
Hi guys!

For future info (and I'm fairly sure there's a news article about when this first happened, somewhere...) :
Here's a wee help article about image sizes in galleries!
Quote:
Gallery Widget

Use the gallery widget to display your art and reference pictures of your characters.

While editing a gallery widget, click the "Add an image" link.

Click "Choose file" to select the image file of your choice. Only .gif, .png and .jpg filetypes under 550KB in size will work.

Once you have selected your image file, click "Upload Image"

If you'd like, you can give the newly uploaded image an title and description. After you're done, click "Save Changes."

All images that contain nudity, or otherwise exceed the PG-13 rating must be properly marked as mature.

Kim had to drop the allowed size of image files for galleries quite some time ago due to strains on the server, if I'm remembering rightly!

For those who need help with this on a computer instead of a mobile device, everyone can use a free browser page like this:

http://www.picresize.com/

After you upload the image here, at the very bottom it says "Save As" and you can choose JPG with a 'max filesize'. As Copper so helpfully showed, the max you can have is 550kb. I always try to make it 500kb or less instead to be 100% sure it won't be too large. :)

Please note that just changing the filesize will reduce the quality quite a bit. You may opt to resize the image in dimensions (height and width) instead to preserve quality. Keep in mind the site usually resizes large images anyway, so I try to aim for a max width and height of 800 pixels each image. Just play around with it a little!

If you have a .PNG file that is too large, try tinyPNG! https://tinypng.com/ I can't personally tell the difference between a pic that has been tinyPNG'd and one that hasn't but the filesize usually gets shrunk by about 65%!

I adore tiny PNG!

To be clear -- the "size" that the site is complaining about is not physical dimensions (how tall and wide it is) but how much data is contained in the file.

If the pic is just too tall and wide, the server will resize it on your behalf.

If it's too large in terms of data, the server won't touch it, as image processing of a large amount of data can cause strain when it's trying to do that for a lot of people as well as doing all the normal things it does to serve the site. :)

I remembered this post when I had a .PNG declined today, and this site is EXCELLENT. I can't recommend it enough!
