I did a thing, guys!
I got an apartment!!
I moved in Tuesday (which was the day after I got back from a 10-day trip in Germany XD ), and have been trying to find time to unpack amidst my life of working two jobs. Today my best friend comes for the weekend to help me unpack, organize, and decorate!
IT'S SO EXCITING!! It's my first ever apartment, and my first time living on my own (as in, not in a dorm with other people). I've slept in it each night since Tuesday and I'm not near as scared as I expected to be! I thought my anxiety would make sleeping in a new place alone very difficult, but it's actually been pretty fine (though that may just be the jet lag)!
It's a small apartment, one bedroom, but it's home. I'm currently trying to find the best way to store stuff, decorate, etc. It's crazy! I'm really looking forward to making this place mine, though.
An interesting thing I've noticed about myself is now that I'm paying for electricity, I'm a lot more conscious about how much of it I use XD Like if I'm walking into a room just to grab something, I won't even turn on the light; I'll use my phone or my portable lamp that holds a charge!
Any of you got some tips and tricks for apartment living? :D Or some funny stories? I had a cop show up on the front porch the first morning of my being in the apartment. XD The lady in the building beside me had missed her court date (he assured me she wasn't dangerous) so they were checking with the neighbors to see if anyone had seen her.

Ohh, let's see, interesting old apartment stories...

- Finding a clam shell in my laundry after I brought it back home from the coin laundry. I had not been on a trip to the beach.
- Having someone knock on my door to ask me if a particular car was mine. Somehow, it was parked in neutral and rolled across the lot into another car.
- Pot smoke. In a state where it's very illegal. Through the walls... ALL the time.
- The really high neighbor across the street! He was fun. I left a vacuum outside for free once and he took it. He raved for days about how great it was, and would run up and down the street demonstrating to me how fast it worked in his house.
- Oh, the nasty, nasty smell. Couldn't figure out what it was, cleaned everything, then found a dead rat the size of my arm under the sink.
- The tub that wouldn't drain! Turned out something was wrong with the plumbing and every time I took a shower and it drained slowly it was draining into the apartment beneath me... where the landlord lived but was staying at his girlfriend's place instead. He wasn't very happy.

Oh man!!
Well as far as the tub draining, that's your landlord's fault for not doing proper upkeep! XD
So far I haven't had any 'interesting' experiences with the neighbors, thankfully! We'll see how long that keeps up... XD
I bounce around a lot, and I usually have to balance the wants and needs of others that I'll be living with. I developed what my friends refer to as "the Batman list" - a form that allows the gathering of the most important information about properties (usually apartments) for easy comparison. It also helps us remember what all we need to ask about. Previously, it fit 3 properties to a sheet, but a recent redo allowed me to fit 4 somehow while still having more information.

I've been considering posting it online somehow. Probably Google Docs or something. It needs to be editable for other people's needs. I mean, not everyone needs to make sure that a property will allow reptiles. I guess I could post it uneditable with just space to write-in stuff though?

To be clear, it's set up for: property name & address, owner/manager phone #, travel time (to/from work and such), cost of rent and various utilities, a checklist of important items (laundry facility on property? allows pets? property is in good shape? etc), and a box for general notes.

It just occurred to me I don't have a box for square footage... I do have space where it can easily fit, though!

Look at you! You're so organized!! :D That is awesome lol. And Google Docs is a GREAT way to go. I used it for group projects in college.
Yay! Adulting! *she silently cries on the inside*
