Ready to be a hero this weekend?

Posted by Kim on May 12, 2017, 9:53am

We've nearly completed building both booster rockets to launch our experimental space ship, defeated two mini bosses, and cracked an alien code... What's still in store for us?
Welcome to the most Epic Weekend ever! Epic Week is building up to its finale, and YOU can be part of the team of heroes who leads us to victory.
Since we know that you are all devilishly clever, but not everyone happens to have a lot of trivia knowledge at their fingertips, this year fully half the riddles are puzzles. You don't need any prior knowledge about any fandom, the RPR, or anything else - all of the clues that you need for the puzzles are contained within Epic Week itself. Even if this is your first week here, you can help to solve them. These puzzles are challenging, so put your thinking caps on and bounce ideas around in the riddle chat. It's going to take a lot of group thinking to win!

An alien language decoded

Already, through the determined work of Heimdall and Dragonfire, you've decoded the alien language and number system! Here's what Heimdall had to say about how they accomplished that feat using the clues in the Epic Week comics and videos:
Heimdall wrote:
The crescents and dots clearly represent letters, but which ones? First clues came from the alpha, omega, and zeta node symbols. This is tricky because "omega" can represent either the last letter OR the letter "o." In this case, after some experimentation, I've determined that it's the letter "o!" And the alpha node symbol is "a," and the zeta node symbol is "z."

It's reasonable to then assume that, because "one dot with upper-left arc" means "a," then "two dots with upper-left arc" means "b." In the scout video, we hear our boy say "launch" as he presses a 6-letter word in the alien script. The second symbol is our "a" symbol and the fifth is "three dots with upper-left arc," which we can assume means "c." Aka, it spells launch! Using that lettering info, plus what we know to be "o" and "z," I put together the transliteration above.

And numbers, too? Why yes! Here's what Dragonfire had to say about cracking that code:
Dragonfire wrote:
The numeric system is pretty easy to follow - dots without accompanying curved lines (which would be letters, instead) are the numbers 1-5, and straight lines are tally marks of 5. A line and a dot is six, line and two dots is seven, two lines and three dots is thirteen, and so on!

Armed with the power of knowledge, we're all ready to defeat the alien menace together!

Confused about Epic Week?

That's okay, it's a great big event with lots of moving parts! :) The best way to learn is by exploring, trying things and chatting to people in the Riddler, Warrior and Doubutt topics, but if you want a jump start on understanding, check out this article: Epic Week Primer (It's got some quick videos and everything!)

Want to fight but don't have any weapons?

While the Epic Week game is going on, there's three main ways to obtain supplies:
  • As your browse the main site, you have a chance to find a weapon that someone playing the Doubutt game put into circulation, or picking up a party hat (Party hats heal you in this universe!) The more you participate in Epic Week, the higher your chances of finding items by exploring!
  • You can go to the group set up by members specifically for the purpose of sharing Epic Week items, sign up, and take some items from the treasury: The Epic Armory
  • You can visit the underside of Forohfor castle every half hour for a random chance at obtaining some items. Here is the link to Forohfor during this year's epic week: Under the shadow of Forohforcastle

Awesome. I've had the best Epic Week ever. Thanks Kim, and everyone else! I've had a blast! I'm hyped for next Epic Week! I wonder what we'll fight next year! What did you guys fight last year? No one has to answer, I'm just curious.

Epic Week was/is so awesome, I've been so stuck in my inbox, Epic Week got me out.

Man, I wish Epic Week would last longer but, there's always next year!

My first epic week is almost done?...That's too sad to think about, but it was the most amazing thing I believe I have seen a community do in a long time. I can't say that I didn't at least try to be a part of everything. Hopefully next year I will be more knowledgeable about how all of this works and thus topple everything with flying colors! All I have left to say is thank you for this wonderful week! <3 <3 <3
